Weaning!

Hi ladies...

Sorry I have been a bit absent lately I have had my bro and sis staying with me and it has been CHAOS! Lol. They have finally gone so peace at last...

Well Holly is 6 months on Monday so weaning begins FINALLY! She has been displaying signs of being ready for a few weeks now but I was determined to wait until the 6 month mark, I'm sooooo pleased that it's finally here, I am BF and getting totally knackered as she is feeding all the time!!

Anyone got any tips for me...? I have got baby rice and baby cereal at the ready, obviously I will still be BF her on demand but I have read so many weaning guides on amounts / frequency of 'meals' to start baby on and all seem to be different?

Oh also what do you all think of rusks, I bought some when Asda had HUGE boxes for £1 but have since read that even the reduced sugar ones I got are not too great and are quite high in sugar?

Thanks

Tons of love and hugs!

Rach xx + Holly nearly 6 months

The joys of weaning start here.............

lol..... cadene was 6 months when we started weaning.......... it really helped that she was ready in herself to eat.......... i'm still bfing her at 9 months as well as her food............. i started with lunch cause she was awake and in a good mood....! i did it about an hour after her morning nap with baby rice........ i used organic and added breast milk but i would say just use water or cows milk cause its a drama nless you're already pumping nd they dont even take that much to start with.... i then tried her with purees and tried a new fruit/veg every 3/4 days... my advice would be get loads of freezable food pots so you have food on hand if you're ever in a rush or if she doesnt like something at first so you can try it again.... i added an extra eal every few weeks when i felt she was ready........... but just take it at her pace there's no rush............... hope that helps hunni xx danica and cadene 9 months xx

Awww what a clever girl holly is startin weaning!!!!

I wasn't breast feeding by the time i started weaning, but I started with introducing a couple of spoons of baby rice at the end of Riley's 11am feed. I chose this time of day as it was when he used to be most alert and attentive!
after he'd got the hang of that I started to puree pears, carrots, and similar and gave them at this time too!
After a few days and when I thought he was happy I started to give him something more substantial at 11 am (say sweet potatoes, or parsnips) and gave the fruit or veg at teatime.
I kinda gradually increased the amount i gave him and after a few weeks he was on cereal at breakfast, a meat and veg lunch and something similar sometimes fish or scrambled egg at teatime! I think the books are ok to guid you but babies are so different that i tried to up the amount when he seemed to need more (if that makes sense).

With the Rusks, I am personally not a fan, but thats not to say Riley's never had them. I try to avoid sugary foods, and I tend not to give him anything that contains salt either, not that rusks do tho i dont think. My friends seem to think I am a fussy over neurotic mother because I check the sodium or salt content of everything, but I feel better knowing he isnt eating too much of it! ( ANyway I am babbling on now) lol.

Good luck with the weaning!!!!!!! I loved the reactions from Riley every time he tasted something new!!!
