Partner acting wierd?

Me and my partner recently had a baby, I think he has bonded with her but he gets very ratty when she crys on a night time and he constantly moans about it. We agreed he would wake for night feed last night to give me a brake because i usally do them but I heard him shout at her to shut up, So I woke up and took over. It is hard work having a newborn baby and Im sure we will have hurdles to cross in the future but Im just wondering if anyone elses partner has reacted like this?

Thanks for the replies girls

yes this is our first, it was ok when he had 2 weeks off we would both get up and he would change her and I would feed her but since he has gone back to work its like I work full time, I just want to come home and relax he also feels he shouldnt wake for night feeds in the weekday which I can understand but I dont think he realises looking after a baby is a 24/7 job!

I have spoken with him and Ive told him how F.. Off I was with his attitude and that he shouldnt of reacted like that with her as shes helpless and were the ones who need to care for her and he said he has been taken his hay fever tablets which make him very moody and tired (which I can say they have this effect on him) but I said its no excuse. So he woke up last night (she decided to sleep through until 5am TYPICAL) so he didnt have to wake 2 times in the night like I would.

Thanks again

Fraid so

my OH was worse in the beginning, he's quite a lot better now (my little girl is 7 and a half months old) but it does still happen from time to time. He gets so impatient with her like he's angry with her for crying or refusing to take her bottle when he wants her to, it's like he doesn't understand that she's just a baby and isn't doing it out of spite! I wish I'd found a magic solution I could share with you but tbh I just do what you did and take over, can't bear the thought of her being treated with anything less than total love and patience. I just think men react differently to us to parenthood, not making excuses for them, they're in the wrong as always (lol) but it's a fact of life they're not always natural parents and I think all we can do is try to lead by example and make it clear what you won't stand for like shouting for instance. My OH makes more effort to be patient with her now because I told him I would leave him if he carried on being nasty to her, I meant it too she's the most important thing in the world to me and he knows it. It has got better in our case so there is hope for your partner, you just have to guide him on the right ways to handle your baby and make it crystal clear what's not acceptable, it did cause some rows in our house but it was worth it to protect my daughter. Hope you manage to sort it out, PM me anytime if you need someone to chat to.

Love, Clare xxx
