Sleep advice please

My baby is now almost three weeks old. Whenever I breastfeed her in the evenings she falls asleep in my arms. I then put her in her cot and that is when she wakes up and cries endlessly. I pick her up again and she sleeps, I put her down, she cries! No matter how long I rock her to sleep she cries as soon as she is in the cot. It isn't like that during the day, she likes her cot.
Any advice?

Katy, sleepless

Hi hun

i find Siri has a 'cuddle quota' as long as we have cuddled her lots during the day she settles well at night - we use a baby wrap /sling to carry her when out walking, shopping or like today when manically trying to get the flat sorted lol

babies don't know that you exist when they can't see you, takes a few months for them to realise it.

also try propping up her cot a bit - use things especially designed for it so not to risk it tipping. she could be getting a touch of reflux when lying down flat.
also is the room much quieter during the night? could be that there is enough noise during the day so she feels comfier. babies like white noise, so try having a fan on in the room, or a computer or having the washing machine going, something to mean there is noise around her.

when you pop her in the cot in the day is she awake or asleep? it could be that she is getting fright from suddnely waking in the cot when she has gone to sleep in your arms.

we got a baby hammock for siri - it's great - can rock her to sleep without having to pick her up

hugs

You could try...

swaddling her and putting one of your tops in the cot underneath her so she has your smell nearby.. use one that you have worn that day..

Good Luck
