How come my son can eat things with egg in but not egg on its own...

hey have not been on here in ages just after some thoughts!

basically, when we first tried finlay (who is 18months now)with some scrambled egg when he was just under a year old, it just curdled on his stomach and he threw up for days, so we stayed clear of giving him pure eggs,,was the same at nursery with egg mayo sandwiches and basically anythin that is just pure egg. we tried him again recently, and it had the same effect so just going to avoid it for now..

whats confusing me is that he is fine with things with egg in..like quiche which is full of eggs, cakes etc...! why is this?

he was also funny with cows milk when we first started to give it to hima nd had to stop at one point...but now we weened him on it slowly (and even then he is havin semi-skimmed as full fat is too much for him) and he seems fine with it now..its taken us months!!lol

any thoughts?

thanks
Hayley and 18month old Finn x

My little sister is the same.....

........... it would make her instantlty sick to eat them on their own but they were fine in cakes etc... and she has asthma so not sure if its linked to allergies in general... now she's 21 but not sure if she could eat them by themselves cause the thought of it puts her off lol xx

Hmm..

atleast i know its just not finn who is like this!lol he is asthmatic aswell but its not too bad atm...and he has been sickly since he was born really, always throwin up his milk n stuff maybe its linked? i duno think its best to avoid pure egg atm until i know for sure he wont be sick! xx

I'm the same and i'm a grown up!!

When I was little, they found out that I was allergic to eggs. Can't eat them in their simplest form (boiled, fried, scrambled etc) as they bring me out in a horrible nettle type rash and can trigger an asthma attack. That said, I can eat cakes and pretty much anything with egg in and I just LOVE mayonnaise. Can't eat a sandwich without it so you can imagine the trauma I had having to do without when I was pregnant!

That said, my little one seems to be going the same way. Far too scared to try him with egg but I've already realised that anything else dairy (cows milk, cheese and butter) brings him out in horrible ezcema. HV says he'll grow out of it when he gets older so just need to be careful for now.

Mmm, rambled on a bit sorry! i was just trying to make the point that its perhaps a bit more common than you think and I agree, maybe the intense cooking of eggs and mixing with other ingredients makes them less likely to cause a reaction which is why Finn is okay with some things and not others.

I googled "dairy free receipes" the other day and was astounded at what came out. Perhaps try the same with "egg free".

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply..

lol i dont know either!!hes just strange i think!Lol

hes fine with yogurts, cheese etc... just eggs and full fat milk!lol thats what i think mind, maybe its just the way its been cooked as its cooked longer in other things!

thanks anyway xxx
