Hi all!!!

maisie is 9 weeks and 3 days old!!! from about 5 weeks she was having her last feed at 10 pm and waking anywhere between 5 and 6, for the last few nights she has been waking up at 2.30am and 3.30 and then again at 5 or 6 , i know she they are all different and all settle into routines at different time etc but i just wondered if anyone knew of a reason why she might have changed ? i am breastfeeding her exclusively do you think that it could be that as shes getting bigger she wants more milk and that by having the extra feed it will increase my milk supply and then she will have bigger feeds and settle back to a routine when there is more milk for a bigger feed or am i talking a loada rubbish????
just wondered what sort of nights all your babies have?
also how many ounces/feeds should a 9 week old baby need? i have been expressing a bit today and yest to see how much she actually takes and noticed that i dont get the same amounts out each time!!!

any help/comments welcome

cheers

take care

sarah

Hi hun

well... i've been breastfeeding siri too - she sleeps 2, 3 or 4 hours then wakes for a feed - there is no pattern lol and she's always been like this.

the good news is that we are so efficient now that a feed can take as little as 6 mins from picking her up to popping her back down again

don't fret about whether you have enough milk hun, as long as you let her feed whenever she wants for as long as she wants - cosying, comforting and feeding are all good, use boob as much as you and she want - you will keep up with her growth. siri has always had what she wants when she wants it and she is a VERY healthy weight lol

and yes, here they are called 'kedager' - which means 'increasing production days'
the more baby is on the boob, the easier and faster feeds become - and if she just wants to feed for a few mins then let her because the thin, thirst quenching milk is at the front of the boob and the fattier milk is at the back. so that also goes for don't swap boobs a few mins into a feed - they need to get the hind milk fom the boob they started on. just try and remember which boob it is they started on the first time and swap to the next one the next feed.

hugs
elizabeth & siri - 7 months today!

I agree... maybe a growth spurt!

usually between 8-10 weeks most babies have a kind of growth spurt and I can remember Riley being so hungry at this time that I felt like I was constantly feeding him!
After a week or two he did settle back to his previous routine, so hopefully Maisie will do something similar?

When you express your breast milk Its not unusual to get different amounts every time! and TBH I think that babies are far more effective at draining the breast completely, than breast pumps are! even the ones that claim to have the same action as your babies suckling reflex wont drain the milk like your little one can! plus when you are feeding your baby the let-down reflex is stronger due to the hormonal/emotional reaction that happens when you feeding your baby! if you get what i mean?? Its like this cos you obviously hav no emotional bond to a breast pump so your let down reflex can be less with a pump!

Hope your nights sttle down again soon hunny x x x x x x x x

Hi

my little boy did this every few weeks would go out of normal pattern for a few nights, my health visitor said it was a growth spurt so demand for feeding will go a bit higher then they have them every few weeks x
