Smear tests

Hey girlies

I was at the Docs on Thurs for my 6 week check and I asked him about when I should have my next smear test, he said 6 months post birth but I thought it was 3 months?! What has everyone else been told??

Wow

everything here is news to me. We get them every 3 years regardless of when you have had a baby etc. I was due during Francis' pregnancy and MW asked if I wanted to wait till after just cos of it being yet another invasive uncomfy thing and I said yes so I got it a few weeks after his birth.

Does this mean the result could been inaccurate as 6 months hadn't passed?

Yeah..

..More than likely.
I was told almost all women have abnormal cells in their vagina after giving birth and it takes a few months for everything to go back to normal. So they usually wait 6 months so you get an accurate reading. Ask for another if you are at all worried. Where I am, they tend to give you one if you have good reasons to want one. Not sure if that's the case where you are though!

Heya

Yeah it's what the others have said. When you've had a baby your body can produce abnormal cells for the first 6 months so it would be a false reading if done any sooner.
I had my first at 16 and I got a smear test?? I Haven't had one since though. I am now 20 and preg with second so I guess they will give me another smear when bubs is 6 months. Thats disgusting that they didn't allow you one ( sorry I can't remember your name! Post below!)
Must be different in different areas

i was told i wasnt allowed one because im 21 and i got to be 25?...Silly because if everyone has to have one after they've had a baby then why does that not stand for under 25's who've had a baby?

6 months

I was told six months as you can get false readings if done any sooner. I am going for mine when he goes 6 months as that is what my docs do. They wont do them any sooner at mine

Jodie and Ben 15 weeks today

I think he's right

I was told 6 months as well after the birth of my first, so that you're body has time to get back to normal.
hope this helps,
Flo, Etienne 18 months and Léonie 18 days old
