Advice about my child!

Freddie will be 2 at the end of this month and lately he has started smacking and head butting us! We NEVER smack him unless he purposely hurts his baby sister..

He bit me the other day on my leg for no reason and when we tell him off we get smacked and/or head butted!! we are smacking back when he smacks us, not hard just a tap on the hand...I feel so guilty for this tho, we've tried walking away but have decided this may not be the best tactic incase he is violent to other children his age..

Someone HELP? I am sooo hoping this is just a phase..he is such a loving child it's like living with Jekyl and Hyde!

Thanks

Claire, "Jekyl and Hyde" Freddie (almost 2) and Caitlyn (1 in October)

Hi hun

I agree that ignoring the situation is probably the only way to deal with it if it does start, however like Sammie says maybe there is a possibly a way of seeing it coming then distracting him with something?
Riley has slapped me and kicked me on occasion and I do tend to move hi away and ignore him! it seems to work for us hunny.
Good lluck

Hey!

I've recenently moved house, and as yet not seen my HV, but I asked her advice over the phone, Eleanor throws tatrums, which I ignore but a few weeks back she was hitting us, and quite hard too, we've never smacked her and so I don't know where she picked it up, but the HV said we should put her down and leave the room....I did this, shut the door behind me & I could hear her up at the door crying throwing a tantrum basically, so I opened the door and picked her up and said are you sorry? gave her a cuddle and we made it up I had to do this again with her, and since that she hasn't bothered, when David came home I told him, but when she hit him, he has forgotten, so he said 'don't hit daddy' in a stern voice, so I said remember leave the room, so when she came right back at him & hit again, he left the room, did the same as I did, and she hasn't hit us again, touch wood.

You could try it.

Hi

Im having this trouble with Olivia too, livvys 16 month and has been smacking for a good few months, if she smacks me i just hold her arm and say No you do not smack, sometimes she wil laugh and keep hitting me other times she will just forget about it and play. I have smacked her hand lightly back too but i dont do it anymore as it just causes her to smack me back, y shud i b aloud if she isnt...kinda thing lol.
HAve u tried sitting him in the corner of a room or on the bottom step. I did this with olivia and amazingly she stayed there.
Good luck keep me posted
xx

Can you tell when its coming as if so you can always try to change the way you deal with the situation.

I think with hitting it is just a phase - i think the best thing to do is say "you do not hit me" in a normal voice at his level and then say "come and find me when you want to say sorry and play" and just walk away maybe leaving him on a naughty step - if he keeps getting off just put him back on calmly until you tell him he can get off...
