Late separation anxiety??

Hi ladies,

Sorry another question (now I've come out of the shadows there's no stopping me lol )

Anyway, Aidan is 14 months and I though I'd got off quite lightly with separtion anxiety as I know it usually occurs around 10 months. However lately whn I take him to nursery (he goes one day per week) he gets really upset as soon as I walk in the door and screams when I hand him over to the staff. I usually hang around outside the door and literally two minutes later he is fine so I'm sure its not that he's unhappy there.

He also seems to get upset if I take him into a strange environment ie: doctors or a friend/relative's who he does not know as though he's scared incase I'm going to leave him.

Do you think this is just separation anxiety striking late? Does anyone know what I can do to help him?

Thanks

Claire xxxx

Hiya hun.

Yes I do think this is seperation anxiety striking late.
My daughter was always fine when I left her at nursery when she was about 12 months. But when she started pre-school at 2, she started screaming when I left her and crying for about 10 mins. When I'd calmed her down and got her playing with other children she was fine. I had to stay with her for a few weeks until she settled.
I started off staying by her side for the first few times and not leaving her alone at all. Then I stayed with her but stood at the back with the staff so she could see me. Then I left her there after half an hour, gradually making it longer and longer. Until now she can't wait for me to go. She stands at door waving me off going bye mummy!

I haven't been much help hun sorry but I do think it is seperation anxiety with Aidan.

Hope you sort it soon! I know how distressing it can be for you!

Love Kirsti, Daisy (3) and 28+2 Yellow Bump.xx
