Colic driving me crazy!

Hi Guys,

Hope everyone is well?? Finally got Calum off to sleep without much of a fight so got some time to myself for a change!

Had a bad night as Calum was screaming till 2am!! I have been giving him infacol which seemed to work wonders at first but now he must be imune to it cos he seems to be in pain again. Not only is it when he's awake- he doesn't seem to be able to have a sound sleep anymore- if he falls asleep and I go to put him down anywhwere- he wakes straight back up... I can't get anything done and I'm soo tired! I have ordered some Dr Browns bottles and they should be here on Monday- I am hoping they are as good as everyone says!

I just feel soo hopeless when he is screaming- he's been fed and nappy changed- there is no consoling him....

he also has conjuctivitis (sorry about spelling) he's had it since he was born and it hasn't cleared up- the HV took a swab on Fri and there is still no results back yet- it's really annoying as all he needs is something a bit stronger to clear it up and it would be fine.

Thanks for listening and any advice on colic would be great!! Although I feel like I've tried everything!!

Hope everyone is well!

Take care, Eileen and nearly 3wk old Calum xx

Colief is the best thing ever

I had two very colicy boys. And i swore by Colief. It was the only thing that worked. I did use Dr Browns Bottles and Colief on my second baby.

The minuite i took them of it they became irritable and got the colic back - so i know it really worked. Its about £10 for a tiny little tube but believe me it is well worth it.

Dr Brown bottles arrived today- and Calum is having his first feed from it now! Fingers crossed for us!!

Eileen and Calum 3wks today!

Update!

Had a much better night last night!! Screaming is down alot- not perfect but I think these bottles are magical.

HV came today during feeding time and saw the pain Calum was in- so she told me to try colic massage with olive oil on his tummy. His poo in his nappies have been alot worse- which is a good thing for him (not me when I need to change them)!

I'm soo happy for my little boy I just hope it lasts and isn't a short term fix, but I have to say as soon as he was feeding from the bottle last night he started farting - oh dear might have to invest in some nose plugs now.

A very tired but happy mummy and baby calum xx

Hi sweetie

I found Dr Browns bottles with gripe water at every feed and colief in the milk an absolute godsend. Traivys has colic very badly and still has it now past 3 months. As soon as I stopped this routine at 3 months to see if it had gone the colic came back with a vengance.

I also canno reccommend highly enough a cranial osteopath it was like a miracle for Traivys. He had 2 initial visits and has had about 4 little top up visits.

Hope that helps hun

Love Nikki & Traivys 15 weeks today!!!!

Hey

Sorry your having such a bad time, think most of us have been in this position, megan would be awake all day crying and then up 4 times in the night, was knackered.

I swapped between dentinox and infacol so she didnt get used to just one and it worked for a few weeks, and i know you have ordered dr brown bottles but if they dont work try mam anti colic bottles, the teats are a lot better and they have an anti colic valve at the bottom of the bottle instead of in the teat they work wonders on megan

Also with conjuctivitus, wash his eyes with warm water and cotton wool everytime his eye gunks up, i got stuff off the doctor for megan and it did nothing, yet carried on with just the water, going through so much cotton wool but in a week it had gone,

Hope things get better for you,

Nat and Megan xxx

Hi

Just wanted to reply to send you hugs ((((((( hugs ))))))) as I've been in your situation..... although I must admit Elise always slept fairly well at night, I had the problems through the day when she was smaller and had colic..... she just didn't nap at all through the day, and when she was awake she was screaling - therefore she screamed the WHOLE day......... with not many naps to break it up for me to gather myself together and be ready for the next bout.
But it DOES get better and the way I look at it is if she'd never been colicky I wouldn't appreciate the difference now that its gone and she doesn't cry like that anymore she has her moments but they're just moments now, not alllllll day!!)
Hang in there and before you know it he'll grow out of it and you'll appreciate the "good" times even more!!

Best thing for colic

is Coleif, its a tiny bottle and cost about £10 but it really is the best thing on the marke, you can get it in the chemist, you may have to ask for it though as sometimes they keep them behind the counter!

JOIN THE CLUB!... thnx for ur reply on my board... well ive tried dr.brown bottles and they worked great the first 2 weeks and now she just seems to be getting worse again...tonight she has gone off to sleep and my partner couldnt bring any wind up atall but she's dozzed off not bothered? she seems to sleep through the night with out it bothering her so i feel for u having it up to 2am!

Silly question but how long does her cry for when he is in gripin pain? because i was in a room with a few people when rosie was gripin in pain and she cried for only 3 minutes or so untill her wind came up and i was like OMG theres something seriously wrong becuase she never crys this long?

Oh hun,
So sorry 2 hear u n ur little one r havin a bad time of it.
Its so hard n frustrating sumtimes, I know. I would try the dentinox, worth a bash! Maybe ring the HV again n express ur feelings as they sumtimes 4get about us mums!!! Maybe if u call again they may chase up the test results.
All the very best n here's hoping u get Calum sorted n contented soon. mummyand2. xxx

Hi eileen

Have you tried dentinox? We found that slightly more effective for our Sam than infacol and easier to give, just mix in with bottle?

There's colief that we tried for a bit but actually don't think Sam's colic was that bad, our GP gave it us on prescription. It is so hard when they're screaming and you've tried everything, i remember it well!

Just about the conjunctivitis, our Sam has a sticky gooey left eye for about the first 4 months, altho it was sometimes yellow it wasn't actually infected. Apparently it was due to a blocked tear duct, fairly common i think, just when they are little things don't quite work as they should. Our GP advised massaging the tear duct with a clean finger tip and bathing his eye regulary with cooled boiled water. We did this at every nappy change for months, bit of a pain but it's absolutley fine now so we got there in the end. Anyway, I'm waffling now! Hope you get the results back and get treatment and I've heard the Dr Brown's bottles are fab so good luck!

Thanks for all your replies!

Think I'm finding being a first time mum harder than I thought- think it's the lack of sleep Also I'm on my own all day until 6pm when my hubby gets home from work- I don't have any family close by to come and help me out- or even just to hold Calum for me whilst I get on with things.... like eating or going for a shower.

I thought I would be fine looking after a baby- I have always been around babies but it's completely different when they are your responsibility! I feel like I don't have a clue!

Calum cries for ages- last night it was after his feed until his next feed! I know he wasn't hungry cos we always make up 120mls formula and he never takes it all. Another thing I worry about cos his feeds are never the same- sometimes he will take most of the bottle other times he may only take 30mls and there is no getting him to take anymore! We always try for an hour- feeding/burping/feeding/burping- just incase he is too gassy to take it but he still refuses to even open his mouth.

Well, he is getting fed by his daddy just now- and seems really sleepy so lets hope we have a good night!

Good luck everyone thats having the same issues!

Eileen and Calum (almost 3wks)!

Hey Hun,

it is hard work, espically if you dont have that 5min brake where someone else can just hold him for u... i promise u it does get a bit easier once you get used to it... mine was when she was 6 - 8 weeks old and even now i can have bad days where i think am i doing this rite?

finger crossed for a good night sleep for u!

Lucy & Rosie (10wks) x

Thanks!

The crying is really upsetting and found myself in tears last night too as I just felt totally helpless- I even started to think I should just leave him cos there is nothing I can do- but there is no way I can leave a screaming newborn- even if I can't help I need to try and felt guilty for even thinking about it!

I'm off to bed now- have left hubby with Calum upstairs- I can hear he hasn't settled yet- lets just hope he's not as bad as last night- otherwise it will be another sleepless night.

Good luck with little Rosie,

Eileen and Calum xx
