Napping during the day

Hi girls

I just wondered if anybody had any advice for getting my son to take a nap during the day.

He NEVER sleeps longer than 20 mins at a time during the day but he does sleep very well at night. I wouldn't mind but by about 5pm he is so tired he ends up screaming until bedtime cos he's so over tired.

I'm sitting here typing this listening to him gurgling away in his moses basket where I put him for a nap after his bottle - he obviously has other ideas lol!!!!

He doesn't cry if I put him down but doesn't sleep either.

CHeers guys

Love Nikki & a very awake Traivys 15 weeks today!!!!

hey!

If were at home Rosie will only have 10minute naps - about 3 times a day... she is a very nosey baby lol after her feed if she hasnt fallen off to sleep i will sit and talk to her or put her on her play mat which she loves, this usally tiers her out or i take her out in her push chair where she will go to sleep (Sometimes!).

I usally find she sleeps more when im out and about doing stuff...again she is very nosey so will watch what everyone else is doing but she tiers herself out. Yesterday went out for lunch and some shopping - i was dreading it beacuse the last couple of days shes been quit grumpy and not her normal self but yesterday was a really good day havent had her sleep so much through the day since she was first born lol! Its amazing what fresh air can do! she slept from 12pm - 2pm and then 3pm - 6pm (missed her 4pm feed) but she was happy, had her bedtime feed and slept 8pm - 8am.

Maybe around 5pm take him for a walk in his pushchair for fresh air it may send him off and stop him from getting worked up beacuse he is over tierd?... i understand because rosie can cry loads and ive fed her, changed her nappy etc and im thinking whats wrong? but she also gets herself over tierd i also find walk up and down the front room or around the house bobing up and down LOL works well to calm her down.

Crazy isnt it!

heh hope u and travivys are well... he is such a lovely baby!

Awwww, he is just super gorgeous!

He's gonna be a heart breaker!

I have to say that I had a similar experience with Sam when he was that age, we just couldn't get to grips with naps. He'd also lie quite happily but by the end of the day would be so overtired it was awful. In the end we had to just ride it out and he got over it and now altho his naps vary in length from 30 mins to 3 hours (!) and are at different times every day we seem to have cracked it so that he doesn't get overtired. He can last around 21/2 hours before gettin tired and I watch for yawns, nose and eye rubbing and whip him up to his cot quick where he'll faff for a bit and then nod off.

Hope he settles soon, I guess they're just learning what to do but not much consolation for you!

Rach and Sam 6 months today

Aw thanks rach

Are you the same Rach I knew in my pregnancy?!?!? I just cant keep up with all the username changes. The dates seem to fit but you have no profile so I cant be sure as there were a few Rach's lol. Thanks for the advice hunni, its nice to know I'm not alone. I think your advice is sound and IU'm going to just go with it and hope that he settle into a routine a bit better as he gets older. He is currently sleeping from 7pm to about 8.30am (waking up at 2am and 6.30am) so I really cant complain and if i try to keep him up at 6.30am he still doesn't sleep later. Besides we have the most amazing cuddles during that time and they are little for such a short time.

Thanks again guys I'll keep you posted

Love Nikki & a now sleeping Traivys xxx

Hiya

yeah, there were loads of rach's who all got BFPs at the same time. I'm rachjones and was on expecting same time as you, you helped keep me going when I was overdue and fed up! He's doing well with his sleeps now and you are right, sam is 6 months now and seems more of a little boy than a baby, sometimes wish i'd cherished those newborn moments more but think i was too tired and bamboozled!

take care x x x

Oh my god....

How strange, i was just about to post the same message! Thomas is pretty much the same age as Traivys and although he is fantastic at night time, he has real trouble napping in the day, and it is a massive struggle to get him to sleep. Like yourself, we have whinging and crying from the 4pm feed through til 7 when his last feed is because he is overtired!

Sorry I'm no help but wanted to let you know you're not alone!

Debra and 14 week 4 day old Thomas James xxxxx

Oh thanks summerlee

He goes to bed at 7pm and wakes up at 2am and 6.30am. He is very fractious now as he again has not slept all day even though we had a really long walk earlier - he slept for 20 mins lol!!!!!

Love Nikki & Traivys xx
