More foody questions....

Hi there,

Hope you all have had a good day!

Emily is 6 months next week and I am changing her food schedule and will be introducing more foods i.e. chicken and fish next week (when I have used all your receipes on the other post!!).

Quick questions, the weaning books say you can give your baby fruit juice. Is this ribena (no sugar) really diluted or would this be like tropicana really diluted.....

The book also says not to give them fruit juice from a bottle but from a beaker, although we have beakers we have not used them yet - can you use them at six months. Emily does not really hold her bottle yet so not sure how this would go.... She does not take water so I am concerned that if she cannot have fruit juice then she may get thirsty. What do you all do?

Emily seems to be loosing interest in her milk, we have milk for the first feed and last feed but in between she is more interested in the solids (although some of the solids have her milk in as this is baby rice).

When you were weaning did your littles ones reduce their milk and if so by how much - we are probably going to do approx 18 ounces a day with 3 meals.

She seems to be troffing solids, full bowl of rice and fruit or rice and veg - I guess if she is wanting some then I should let her have some. At lunchtime today, we were out and she took 2 bowls of rice and ellas kitchen - is this too much??

Help!!

Natalie & Emily xxxx

Hi

I wouldn't give ribena or tropicana, i gave frankie either water (lucky he takes it ) or apple with mineral water, the bottles specifically for babies, i normally get from tesco, i sometimes give it as it is which he gulps down or i mix it with water again, not that it needs it . they do grape and mineral water or mixed fruit, don't give the other stuff yet tho. When frankie was going on solids i'd give a morning bottle then he'sd have porridge then a mid morning bottle then his lunch then afternoon bottle then dinner then dream feed, after a time i started to skip the mid morning bottle then i'd skip afternoon, you judge how she is and when she's ready to skip it, prob as you start increasing amount of solids, they're all different arn't they, if she's not ready to skip one i'm sure she'll let you know. We then went down to just morning 7 oz of aptimil follow on then no other bottle til 7pm bed time then again he'd wake up at 2300 for dream feed but my mates baby didn't wake for that, frankie needed that for quit a while or he wouldn't sleep see how it goes. Trial and error i think see what weight she puts on and how settled she is, good luck

You learn something everything day....

Hi Kerry,

Did not realise there were specific fruit drinks for babies so I will look when I go shopping - thanks for that!

We are very early days of the new feeding schedule but it looks like the following

7am - 5 ounce bottle followed by porridge or baby rice
11.30am - Lunch - pureed veg with rice (if she cannot last from 7am then I may give her a small bottle approx 10ish)
2.30pm - 5 ounce bottle
5.00pm - Tea of pureed fruit with rice
6.30 - 7.00pm - Last Bottle of Milk - 5 ounce

We have just dropped the night feed!

Ithink the next few weeks will be trial and error but should settle into a routine shortly!

Thanks v much
