Feeds and timings

Ben feeds every 3 - 4 hrs, he awakes in a morning between 7 and 8 and it works out he had a feed about 6 pm, i like to get him into bed by 7.30 pm but his bottle isnt due till 9/10 pm. What is the best way to do it? do i hold off his 6 pm feed and give it him at 7.30 but then he wakes at 2 ish for a feed as he isnt taking enough in the day or do i feed him at 6pm and then just before i go to bed at 10. If i do that though he wont have a bottle to go to bed with. What do you ladies do or surgest (sp) any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jodie and Ben

Hey

Hi Jodie,

How old is Ben?

Before Isla was weaned her milk feeds were 7.30am, 10.30am, 1.30pm, 4.30pm, then 7pm for bedtime (granted this was a little bit earlier that it should have been due, but this gap always seemed to work).

I then let her decide when during the night she wanted a feed and she would sometimes wake at 2am, sometimes 4am, but by 9 weeks she going right through with no night feeds.
I think being 3 hourly feeds helped this. (I didn't actually move to 4 hourly til we were well into weaning and were up to 3 solid meals a day).

I've seen a bit about dreamfeeds on here recently, and know a few people who did that too, but I don't know enough about the pro's and con's of that to help you much I'm afraid, but I thought if I shared those timings with you it might help.

Good luck,

Love N & Isla (9 months) xx

Hi hun

i hate seeing a post with no replies lol .... i'm a 1st time mummy so i'm not great t this but maybe if he wakes at say 7 and has his 1st feed you could try keeping a ( rough ) 3 hour routine so he'll be due a bottle about 7pm and can then go to bed or if he's better feeding every 4 hours ( not sure how old he is) this should still work out for bottle and bed by about 7 ish ..

Hope you find what works for you nd your lil man.

Hey strangers, hope you're all well x

I started dream feeding just over a week ago. Thomas used to wake at 2 to 2.30 but now with getting into this routine he sleeps through to 4am!!

5oz at 8am
6oz at 12 mid-day
6oz at 4pm
5oz at 7.30
5oz at 10.30 - this is when he is asleep

He goes through phases of not finishing 6oz & so will only last 3 to 3 1/2 hours sometimes but we seem to get back to the main routine somehow. I can't wait for him to sleep through the night.

The thing I've been having a problem with now, is napping during the day. Unless we're out & about, he doesn't tend to lep for more than 30 minutes (only on the odd occasion will he go for an hour).

I would recommend dream feeding. It didn't work at first as Thomas would always wake but now.....
I lift him out gently by cradling him, stick the bottle straight in & he opens his eyes slightly, starts to suckle & then drifts back off while feeding. I don't wind him, just put him straight back down. He has a wriggle & a stretch then settles back into his sleep.
It take take a week or so for him to drop the 2am feed, but I perservered.

Hope this helped

Hey caz and thomas x

Glad your doing well .. I also give Dylan a dream feed and it works really well for him. In fact it was one of the things that helped him sleep through and he now pretty much sleeps 7 - 7am ( i'm gonna had an awful night now cos i'll have jinxed myself lol). At about 8 weeks Dylan decided naps were for wimps and wouldn't sleep for more than 20 mins at a time but we persevered with a routine of feed , play then sleep and thankfully he's now a pretty good sleeper during the day too.

Good to see u on here its been really quiet ...
