Help,meal time becoming a nightmare

I don't want to be the next case on Jo frost's series so any advice appreciated. Frankie goes to nursery still for half day on fridays whilst i'm on maternity normally its 2 days, recently they let him feed himself, great i do too for sandwhiches and pieces of cut up fruit. His 16 months, when i pick him up his usually wearing his lunch i'm not sure how much he eats but he won't let me feed him at night and foreinstance just now i was giving him lentil and veg casserole which he allowed me to give the first few mouthfulls then pushed it away wanting to do it himself. We decided to give it ago trying to let him hold the spoon but he didn't want either my husband or i holding it instead wanting to bash it around and paint his tray with it, i let him carry on and he was using his hands but i thought oh well at least his getting some in bath him after, then he justs starts throwing it on the floor where we start then telling him off he cries and we take his dinner away as he persists in it. I know his hungry, this doesn't happen at breakfast when he lets me feed him ad lunch is usually sandwhich so he cracks on himself its becoming regular routine at dinner unless its stuff he can pick up. anyone else having probs? we've seen the programmes where mum's and dad's have turned dinner into a stressful time and don't want to do that,

Hey...

I have a similar problem with my 15 month old, although some days she is not so bad......she has become very fussy and likes to test the limits.
Like the girls say, i give her the main meal at lunch and not so much at dinner time when they tend to get a little tired and throw there food around even when they are hungry...so frustrating isnt it!

I agree with the spoon for them and spoon for mummy although Lottie tends to take both...ha ha..... i normally hide one and quickly spoon some in when she is distracted, that works well!

I think you are right....try not to make a big deal when they kick up a fuss (its hard i know) i think they are always testing to see how far they can push it....little b*ggers..ha ha

Good luck!

Hi!

we had a similar prob with our son but at 12 months. like you he wasnt really getting much in kust playing with it and throwing it all over! dont get me wrong kids will be kids but i actually find this behaviour (the throwing) really bad and have always said i wouldnt tolerate it! so what we did was give him the main meal of the day (in your case the caserole) at lunchtime when he would let us feed him then give him a snacky sandwich at teatime which you can leave him to feed himslef with. this worked great for us and still is now. i often think that children arent as hungry on a night due to tiredness so just wind up throwing their food around
hope this helps and things get better

oh no

Bless ya meal times can get stressful my sis in law have same prob with her 16 month old as well (must be the age lol) have you tried giving him a spoon and having a spoon yourself so that you can get in a spoon every so often yourself - to be honest not sure what else to suggest other than carry on what your doing unless he is losing weight it will prob pass..

Good luck xx
