Sofem has developed tumbleweed.......

Where is everyone, it is soooo quiet......

Anyway, hope everyone is well.....

Couple of things from our end, Emily is doing well with the solids but she needs to develop tastes for meat which is a little difficult at the moment but she scoffs baby rice with fruit and porridge - cannot get enough of it! Also she is not taking water or juice with her meals - we keep trying but no luck - did anyone else have this problem and did you succeed?

She is teething but not too problematic at the moment but the Ashtons are at the ready......

One thing, Emily has got used to falling asleep with the dummy but now if she wakes in the night she cries until we pop the dummy in so we are going to have to train her to fall asleep on her own, I think we will be trying the controlled crying technique soon - do you think 6 months is a good age to do this or are we too early or too late??

Anyway, think that is it, she is sitting up on her own now and is very shreiky (sp) and also has started screwing her nose up and snorting??? Must be discovering new sounds!!

How is everyone else doing - if you are out there???

Hi natalie

My little boy has to have a dummy when going to bed. He doesnt have one otherwise but he started associating the 'clicking' sound made when the dummy 'handle' flaps. So when he would wake in the night - he would run his hand along until he found it and generally when he picked it up it would make that sound (looking for it he would generally knock it) anway (I am hoping this makes sense) He started doing this around 6/7 months (he is now 11 months). Do the dummies she uses have a handle?? I make sure there are two dummies in his cot at night incase one falls (which inevitably happens) out he has a spare but also cause he holds one when falling asleep.

Keegan only really started eating meat at around 7/8 months. Before this he was happy with his purees with just chicken and no red meat. Give her some time. You will find from about 8 months it becomes such fun feeding them as you can share your food (at least in my case it has.) I find Keegan really likes my homemade meatball. I break them into tiny pieces and he feeds himself.

Cant help in the juice or water front as I didnt really have this problem but maybe she is just really interested in the food rather which is a good thing!!

Hugs

Hey

Megan has a tommee tippee one for in the day but she hardly uses it but she uses it to make herself sleepy, at night she was one with a handle but its quite funny, she has found her fist and thumb so she pulls her dummy out with one hand, and is sucking her fist with the other one. i go in to find her holing onto her dummy eating her fist.

Its good to hear other people using dummies, there is so much going on and so many debates about the use of dummies, but megan spits hers out when she is near enough asleep and then settles herself

We started using a dummy

very early on. One HV who visited gave me right talking too about using a dummy!! My husband was shocked at her attitude so the visiting midwife who came - he asked her what her opinion was and she said if it means that Mum can have a shower, or a bite to eat then by all means!! At one stage I was concerned about dummy dependance so I stopped giving it to him during the day and only gave it to him at night - no problems. He also doesnt have any other dependances such as a blanky so we are limited but I am not concerned at this point.

Hi there

I am glad someone else uses a dummy, Emily has two types, your bog standard dummy with no gimmicks and then we have 2 dummy with the little handle. She normally has the standard dummy at bedtime but what happens is when she falls asleep she drops the dummy and then lies on it. We do take the dummy out after she has been asleep for a while and we put it on her chest of drawers when we need it in the night.

She can pick up the dummy and just about pop it in her mouth but I dont think she is ready to hunt the dummy in the night. I do feel bad using a dummy but if it helps her sleep then I am all for it but we have to get up between 1 - 4 times in the night to pop it back in - which is not ideal....

Re the meat thing, I wont hurry her on this then, she is having lots of veggie puree which I have made, also made cauliflower cheese but this was not successful so I may bland it up a bit with baby rice and keep trying.....

She loves sweet pot, courgette and watercress and also all the fruits so I will keep on this. Also started finger food like little apple rice cakes and corn puffs!! Bless! I will give Emily some time on the food, I think I get too excited and want to try everything at once - this is the impatience in me!

Thanks for your reply and glad people are still on sofem

Natalie & Emily (6 months and 1 week!) xx

Hey

Im guessing people must be on holidays etc, it is very quiet though.

Sounds like Emily is keeping you busy.

Megan is only 9 weeks and is trying to sit up, we were walking round asda with my mum and she was in the baby trolley chair and mum saw her do it, she has been doing it for a few days. She has also now discovered her fist and thumb which is so funny.

We started controlled crying with Megan but it just wasnt working, so we will wait for her to be a little older.

Hope the teething doesnt get too bad for you

Sitting up

already at 9 weeks, blimey, Emily only started sitting up on her own about a week or so ago and she has turned 6 months!

Teething is okay, just popped some bonjela on her gums and as long as she is interested in something then she is okay at the moment
