End of my tether...help!

Hi

I have a 3 month old boy who over the past week has stopped wanting to feed.

He cries like he wants a bottle, then drinks a couple of ounces and starts crying. He then won't have the bottle back in his mouth and screams when I try to.

I took him to the docs on tuesday but, of course, he was happy smiley boy and the doctor said there was nothing to worry about. She did say she thought he might be teething but I thought this didn't start for ages yet?

He's drinking about 3-4 ounces each feed but is only having 5 feeds a day and he is also sleeping all night. This is nice but I wish he would wake up and have another feed!!

Any ideas anyone???
I'm really at the end of my tether

Thanks

Rosie is doing the exact same thing as harry and she is also 13weeks!

She crys for her bottle, takes about 2oz spits it out and crys so i sit her up and wind her and she normally stops crying, brings her wind up and i try and give her more milk but sometimes she will start crying again either untill she will take the bottle after 3 attempts or when shes sat back up for winding... its really strange, i did do a post about this yesterday so u can have a look on there for the replys i got Rosie also sleeps all night.

She has been teething for a good 3 weeks now, not all days but 2 times a week i would say she gets grumpy with it. I use Ashton & Parson's powder (helps if they have tummy ache from it) but she does prefer the dentinox teething gel which she seems sooth her gums quicker.

I dont know what to suggest? i know Natalie has mentioned the bottle temp? but i leave the bottle to warm in boiled water for atleast a min or so. She is now changing her routine around which is annoying because im so used to her old routine!

Thanks

Thanks for the replies.

I spoke to a lovely Health Visitor this afternoon who thinks it might possibly be reflux. She's told me to go to see another doctor tomorrow and describe the symptoms.

Although to be honest he's drunk more milk today than he has in a long time and the last 2 bottle he had fine!?!

She also said to make sure he's sitting up as much as possible when he feeds and to keep him sat up (about 45 degs) for at least 20 mins after he's fed. Even if he's asleep. To aid his digestion as much as possible I think.

I've got a friend who swears by Ashton and Parson's so I'll get some of that too.

Thanks again for the advice

If its reflux dont babies be sick with this? or is that not always the case?

I Hope another doctor can sort something out let us know how u get on.

xx

Fingers crossed

we're sorted now! Been to docs again and she thinks it is reflux. Apparently they aren't always sick with it but the symptoms I decribed of Harry crying after a few oz's and not wanting more is classic of reflux.

So we now have Gaviscon infant to put in his milk, so hopefully this will help. He drank 8 oz this afternoon after he'd had it!!

Oh yes...

and i have changed the teats on dr.brown bottles to size 2's but she still seems to be grumpy with it. Theres another thing you could try, i notice when i give Rosie a carton of milk when we are out she seems to prefer it, so maybe try him on a carton see how that goes?

Couple of suggestions

hi,

quick reply as eating my lunch

1. Teat flow - do you need to change your flow, is he too tired sucking if the flow is too hard
2. Temperature - is it the right temperature - Emily used to faff until I warmed it up a bit more
3. Wind - does he have a bit of wind?

Emily used to do the same as Harry and it was so frustrating, changing the teats really helped. Not sure about the teething and if he is sleeping thru the night then he is getting what he wants.

Hope this helps
Natalie & Emily
