I bought another carrier, a moby wrap

It has been despatched today so can't wait to try it out when it gets here. I still like my Ring Sling but the Moby (like a Kari-me) looks even safer & more comfy.
Is anyone a "baby wearer" & any advice, thoughts or comments?

Caz & Thomas 13 weeks today! xx

i LOVE wearing Siri in our sleepywrap - which looks very like the moby

hmm, tips... make sure you tie it tight enough and wear baby as high as possible - much easier to take the weight high up on your frame than low.
always have a muslin cloth tucked in with baby - at first it was mainly for catching dribbles etc and then it was because it is her cuddly, and now it's back to catching the dribbles and being the cuddly at the same time lol.
have a rucksack as a changing bag when you are going on proper walks - much easier to carry when you don't have a pram.
start off with shorter walks - or wearing him around the house - get used to the way to balance and how to tie the wrap. you have good posture when carrying them lol.
don't over dress yourself or baby when wearing them - it gets hot in there! when having skin to skin time just wear a bra and baby in their nappy and maybe some socks - if you look on the sleepywrap site you'll see the way we tie it with siri's feet tucked up in the outer layer - better when she wants to sleep and also better for the tiny babies.
thomas might be young enough to be in the hammock hold still - with his legs together and not split - i really can't remember how old siri was when she wanted to be in the 'love your baby' hold - where their legs are split against your tummy.
when he is restless pop him in and gently bounce about while humming a simple tune - him being all cosy against you and listening to the hum of your voice will remind him of being in your tummy. i tend to stick to a 2 note hum, one high, one low. that always settled her the fastest - i guess it's like the hum they will have heard in our tummies.
if you have a jacket with a generous front space - maybe one you wore when preg - that will be good to stretch over thomas. i had an old rain jacket when siri was smaller that stretched over her - not a chance now though lol, so i always make sure i have a brolly with us (got a pink one for when it is too sunny and i use that as a parasol, and that doubles as a normal brolly too.) so they are covered from too much sun and rain.
always have a hat with you - we carry two, a sun hat and a warmer one that covers her ears - so she's protected from wind and sun.
when going out in the car - shopping or whatever - pop the wrap on before you go out, then it's easy to put thomas in the wrap straight from tthe car seat.

and finally - wear him as much as possible! it's great!!

oh and when in a stressful situation or when meeting big dogs or whatever - focus on keeping yourself calm, heart rate down and breathing normally - gently telling baby all is well - and he will learn that everything is fine - he'll take his cues from you.

and another lol - if he is really unsettled gently blowing on his face or using a handheld fan can wok wonders!

enjoy!!
hugs

Oh wow thank you soooo much

that is such a helpful post. It didn't even cross my mind to have skin to skin contact - doh!! Erm - was thinking about the coat situation & will look into getting a thin raincoat/anorack. When having the legs out, will he be too hot in trousers cos his bum is in the wrap?
I m only 4ft 11" & thomas was 12lb 13oz two weeks ago & was born 54cm so is a long baby & heavy for me, so his legs will have to dangle out or something rather than a newborn hold.
It hasn't arrived yet!? But can't wait for it to come, I will let you know how I get on.

hi hun,

you are welcome! i just love carrying siri and it's the perfect way to show off your baby hehe

he should be fine in trousers and in the wrap! it really depends on what you are doing, what the temp is, how warm you are - so many things! just be sure to have options with you in the nappy bag until you are more sure

you should look into whether he is ready to have his legs apart - he might not be ready for that. but you should still be fine in the newborn hold - if you look on the sleepywrap gallery page there are loads of pics of all shapes and sizes baby wearing

wow - he was long! siri was only 46cm lol, nothing fit her!!
you'll find the wrap a great way of spreading the weight - siri i nearly 9kg now and i carry her as easily now as i first did - well, easier really as my hips are alot better lol
i bet when i finally lose weight i'll be more toned than i was before! though as we are already trying for our next one...

hugs

Wow

your trying for your next? Fingers crossed for your BFP hun.

46cm ahh bless her. They had to push my ribs up to get Thomas out, he was so curled up inside me!

Will look on the site now, cheers hun

xx

yeah we have decided we want a big family - and i don't really want to be preg after 36 - so the sooner the better lol

thanks!!
