Is there something wrong with my 16month old?

Heya hope everyone is well. I might be worrying over nothing, but Rhys seems very behind on everything...
He only says mama, dada and nana. Doesn't wave hello/goodbye. Hasn't started to learn to walk. Can't and won't attempt to feed himself with a spoon...the list goes on. I almost cried when he climbed onto the couch the other day as it was the first time he has done something on his own accord. I keep worrying that he is slow or something and it breaks my heart to think of him like this. I'm probably just expecting too much but he doesn't seem to do much lol. I love my little man so much but can't understand why he isn't progressing. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Hunny....

please dont think you are doing something wrong. all babies develop at their own rates, Riley only says a few words clearly and he finds other ways of getting what he wants/needs a lot of the time.
I think If you hav real worries then maybe speak to your HV but I wouldnt get yourself too stressed about things!
Its in our nature to compare our children to those around us and you will find a lot of mothers comment and say "OOO can he not do that"... "my baby did that by this time"... but dont listen to them!
I have cared for planty of babies who havent walked or even crawled by 16 months! and they seemed to catch up at their own rate! Maybe play games with him where he has to reach out for toys etc at his hand height, has he got a baby walker or something similar that he can push round! Riley loved his,it was one that you push along rather than the ones they actually get into. I bought it off a mate for £5 and its the best thing I ever got him!
as for the spoon, Riley tries but often gives up and opts for usin his fingers hahaha!

I really dont think you should be too concerned hun, but to put your own mind at rest why not call ur HV and get them to pop out to you! may just do you some good to talk over your worries and hav them put to rest x x x
lots a luv to you and your gorgeous man and little lily bump x x x x x x x x
P.S. Good luck hun, not long to go for lily now x x x x

Thanks hun

I try my best not to compare him to other children, think I read too many books too lol. I spoke the HV about Rhys's speech and she said if he hasn't progressed in a month I should consider taking him to speech therapy at the local centre.

Rhys only learned to sit unsupported at 11 months and crawl at 12/13 months so he was a little behind on things anyway. He had a baby walker but got too tall for it but he is using one of them that you push along atm, although he is more interested in knocking it over. lol. He has had the odd attempt at standing alone and taking a step but thinks it's a game to fall over. Kids eh! lol.

Thanks, bloody getting nervous now, can't wait though, in sooo much pain. I had Rhys at 36+5 so time is really dragging.

Hi hon

try not to worry, easier said than done I know! A lot of my friends have had babies in the last few years and I've noticed that they, inc my 7 month old Sam are all doing things at amazingly different rates but eventually they all get there. Some of them are superfast and some are so laid back they take a lot longer then seem to do a lot all in one go! Impossible to predict! If you are worried can you chat with your HV or GP? Sounds to me like you've just got a lovely chilled out contented little boy who'll do things when he's good and ready.

Try not to worry and good luck with number 2! x x x
