potty training.... too early or follow his lead????

WELL.....for a few nights this week Riley has done a wee on his potty before he gets into the shower and this morning I popped him on it when he woke up this morning and he did a wee straight away!
BUT he is ONLY 16 months and isnt telling me that he needs to go all the time! Ie when he is playing he just wee's and poo's without even acknowledging that he has done it.
I think he is developing the ability to pee when he wants to but dont want to ruin it by potty training too early!

has anyone elses little one's been potty trained so early? or should I just keep letting him get used to the potty and try proper training at a later date?
any advice welcome guys x x

Hiya,
Thats really good that he's interested in it already!
I would let him lead u, don't make a massive issue but do as u r doin n have it handy 4 when he fancies it!!! My mum in law said my hubby found potty out at 18 month n asked wot it was. He used it well after that n trained quickly( so she sez!!!lol.)
My niece is just 2 and months ago she showed interest in the potty. She would go 2 it n do a wee, sumtimes a poo but hasn't yet trained as she 2 still does it in her nappy all the time???!!!
I would just do as ur doin hun n let him lead u.
Good luck, wot a clever little one 2 show interest already!

Hiya hun

With my daughter I was told that they have to be able to tell you that they need a poo or wee before you can start and train them.
I agree with Rachel. Don't stess too much about him using it but praise him if he does. He will learn when he's good and ready.
I started potty training at 18 months with Daisy but that was only because I felt she was ready and she could tell me when she needed a wee.
What I did was leave the potty downstairs in the room we were playing in and she would play with it and say what's that etc. I could always tell when she was going to do a wee cos she did a little shiver ha ha so I'd put her on it. It took ages with her though and she wasn't fully trained until last year some time ( she's 3 now )

Just keep letting him get used to it, before you know it he will be trotting off to the loo on his own!
What a clever little man though, doing a wee before his shower! Well done Riley

I wouldn't stress...

let him use it when he wants to, he'll be used to it then, Eleanor did start telling me when she needed a poo and she clearly knew the feeling, I was putting her on the toilet when she told me, did this for a few days, but then she stopped telling me,so i've just left it, i'll wait until she brings it up again.....hopefully that'll be before she'd 15! ha ha!
