Weaning and constipation

Hi all

I'm trying to wean Traivys as he still wakes every 4 hours during the night and drains an 8 oz bottle every time. However every time i try he gets soooo constiapted I stop as I hate to see him in so much pain. I still think he may have some kind of dairy intolerance but my doctor is just not interested.

It doesn't help that he will NOT take water no matter how much I try - I give him HIPP Organic water with a hint of apple and he will take that - I know its not so good for his teeth but he must get some water in him. I've tried not giving him the juice to make him take the water but he refuses to the point where his little lips go dry

Anybody else had the same problems?

It seem so unfair that he went through such bad colic to now struggle with weaning. Heres hoping teething is a doddle lol!!!!!!

Any help greatly appreciated

Many thanks love Nikki & Traivys xx

Weaning....

.... cadene can't have dairy/ lactose at all and if she did have it you would literally hear her tummy grow from across the room and if you feel her tummy it's contracting and griping and she would scream in agony .. does that happen to your little man...? my doctor and hv both wouldn't listen but because i knew it for myself it is fine because i just know not to give it to her... the only way you'll know is if you completely cut out dairy for a week and see if he improves....
with the constipation i would recommend fresh fruit such as mango, pineapple or dried fruits such as prunes, apricots before his meal.. they have a natural laxative effect without being harsh on his tummy... i always give cadene pieapple or mango when she is constipated, works a treat....!
with the water are you trying it at different temperatures as cadene only likes hers ice cold... otherwise you could try him with the water in a fun cup or with a straw or something to make it interesting for him...
hope that helps hun

Ahhh thanks hunni

I too think i might be lactose. He can take his milk cos I put colief in it which breaks down the lactose but we noticed it when I gave him some egg custard - he went completely rigid and started screamin in pain. I went to the doctor today and she said try no dairy/lactose so I gave him organic sweet potato mixed with a little of his milk which I know he's ok with and he seemed ok.

I've also got some suppositaries form the doctor but I only want to use them if he'sreally bad. It was so funny, because he normally struggles to have a poo he obviously strains and makes alot of noise bless him. Well tonight i was feeding him his tea when he gripped my finger and his little face turned bright red and he made SUCH a big ol noise straining to get his poo out. I obviously thought he had really bad constipation so i got him on his change mat to change him only to find no sign of constiaption and no hard stools. I think the poor little fella was so used to straining to have a poo he did it even when he wasn't constipated lol

Lots of love

awww poor traviys, im dreading weaning as i know it can give them consipation... when rosie has constipation when we were on SMA Gold we gave her half a tea spoon of fresshly sqeezed orange into 3oz of cooled boiled water which helped wonders! Ive heard alot of peoples babies dont like water and they have added the extra 1/2 oz or an oz to the bottle when they make up the feed?

Rosie isnt constipated no more but she also strains, she tenses her hold body up and goes bright red and makes noises, embaressing when were out lol but it ends up being like the playdo type of poo! lol

Hope ur both ok

xx

Hi hun

Yes thanks we're both doing well. I'm soooo enjoying my gorgeous son he's an absolute delight. I cant beleive how much ahs changed in a year. Just over a year ago all I was interested in was where I was going out that weekend and what I was wearing. Now my main accessory to my clothing is baby sick and I'm discussin the consistancy of my sons nappies.

HOWEVER....................... .I wouldn't want it any other way

Lots of love to you and Rosie xxxxx
