Weight n food....

Hi there,

Emily was weighed today and she was 14lb, 14oz and she is 7 months tomorrow -yikes!! she is following her line but I feel I have been blinkered with her food as feeding her porridge, veg, fruit and rice but apparently, she should be on a) follow on milk (d'oh - didn't even think this) and also she should be on more varied foods i.e. meat, fish cheese etc... I have tried her on some different foods but she turns her nose up.....

What have you guys been doing re food - give me some ideas so i can try Emily with new stuff!!!

Anyway, going now as Mark is reading this post and this is strictly women only.

Emily is 7 months old tomorrow - whoopppeeeee!!!

Take care and goodnight

Love Natalie & Emily xxxx

Nose out mark!!

Aw, she's doing well, bless her.
I've been told the same as Bec about the follow in milk so don't worry, we have switched to it now but it doesn't seem to be that much different.
I've only just started to introduce fish, chicken and beef into Sam's diet, in fact he had beef for the first time today. I get recipes from the annabel karmel book and atm it seems that most things include sweet potato so Sam is happy. I tried a pasta thing with baby pasta but he was not impressed so to try and get him used to more lumpy food we let him have organix snacks, he loves the carrot ones which look like big wotsits and bread and butter and rice cakes etc and sometimes a bit of whatever we're having if he likes the look of it and it's not salty/spicey etc. He likes the finger food as he can do it himself and looks very pleased! I just watch with some things as altho his gums are hard and he tries to chew some lumps of food find the way to his throat and he usually coughs it up but with a carrot baton in a restaurant he didn't and I had to help him clear it...bit scary for a second till the carrot flew out and hit the floor...luckily not another diner's plate!!

For some ideas I get some baby stock cubes (too lazy to make own) and boil up mixed veg and lentils then puree, or fry some beef or chicken and casserole with some veg before pureeing. I poached the fish (cod) and roasted the sweet pot then blended. Try googling annabel karmel, maybe some recipes online, or think babycentre might have some.

Hi hun

we just put a selection of things in front of Siri - lunch is usually chunks of cucumber, yellow, orange and red peppers, some fruit of some sort - the past couple of days it's been an orange segment cut in half (with no pips), some carbs of some sort - normally a slice of lightly brown bread or a crusty white roll with some salt free butter on it. and some protein of some sort - half a babybell (which she tends to taste then ignore) and half a slice of ham. or some cold pasta, slice of home made pizza if we've had that the night before.... hmm... oh, melon, she loves that lol. very occasionally she has a slice of home made carrot cake, or banana loaf. (the latter is sugar free)
we just put one or 2 bits of each on her tray and she eats what she wants.
we try and make it as colourful as possible - get as much good stuff into her as possible.

dinner is whatever we are having - or a repeat of lunch if time has got away from us and it's too late to cook and her join us. one of her favourites is home made chicken burgers (chicken mince, red onion, garlic and some herbs), home made pizza, chicken soup with large chunks of chicken, she loves chicken tortillas - though we dilute the spice because of the salt. and we just give her the different parts rather than wrapping them for her. she loves fish pie, beef stew, strogonoff, lol - she loves everything! the gooey foods we put some on stickss of bread so she can get a grip easily and just put some onto her tray. her pincher grip is really coming along so she can now pick it all up and easily get it in her mouth.
she's figured out how to bite bits off which is so cute - she clamps her gums on the food and pulls really hard lol
she is great at chewing and swallowing now she gets quite alot down!

oh and i have made things like drop scones, omlettes, scrambled egg is a good easy one when we are running late, yesterday she had tuna (in water, drained then wit a bit of olive oil added) which she loved.

i just make sure to cook without salt now and keep the high salt things to a minimum. she eats everything

ok, no idea if this post makes sense - been playing with siri while writing it lol

hugs

Hi natalie!

Don't worry about the follow-on milk. My HV said that this is a slightly heavier formula and isn't any different (apart from being heavier) to the normal stuff.

George was seven months yesterday and weighed 20lbs and 3oz - wow! I've been feeding him purely on baby rice, baby porridge, and purees I've made. These have just been fruits and veg (although I've been giving him a big selection of different fruit and veg). I just feel that I want to ease him in slowly with the food. This month (seven to eight months) I'll be introducing cheese, lentils, and possibly chicken and fish, but those last two will be right at the end of the month.

George turned his nose up at broccoli so I mixed it in with some sweet potato and some butternut squash and he took it happily. I did feel like a bit of a schemer but it can't be bad really!

Hope this was helpful..?

Take care, love from Bec and George x
