Traivys off his food - when should i worry

Hi girls

Traivys is suffering terrible with his ears through teething and is not drinking his milk or eating his solids.

Last night he woke up literally moaning in pain holding his hands to his ears & shaking his head. I rocked him in my arms & he fell asleep crying, then when I put him in his crib he wouldn't let go of my hand.I had tears in my eyes seeing his pain

He's only had 9 oz in total between 7pm and 7am whereas he would normally have 32oz. I tried him with baby rice just now and he managed a couple of very small mouthfuls.

I gave him neurofen at 1pm yesterday afternoon and 10.30pm last night but I cant keep giving it to him. Babies are not supposed to have it for more than 24 hours. But he has been checked out at the doctors and has no ear infection so it is just teething.

How long wiht him being off his food do I leave it before I worry - he seems ok at the minute just very tired

Poor little man!!! and poor you too, lots of hugs for you both.

It sounds to me

like he has a headache/migraine which is more than likely linked to his constipation which you mentioned in an earlier thread. If you google headaches and constipation you will find lots of links.

Maybe all this is an indicator that your LO is not quite ready for the solids? I would try going back to just the milk for a while and see if this helps him and whilst he is off his milk too then keep up his fluid intake as Elizabeth says!

I do hope he feels better soon XXXXXX

Thanks hun

I hadn't even thought of that. I am gonna leave off the solids for a little while as he is so out of sorts at the minute. It will be interesting to see if this makes a difference. However I really do think its his ears, he's really pulling on them and has scratched both sides of his face where he has been swiping at his ears bless him.

It was the same again this evening it really upsets me to see him like that but leaving off the solids is probably the best thing to do right now so thank you for that hunni

Hi hun

very quick reply i am afraid

you just need to make sure he is not getting dehydrated - if there are any signs of dehydration then take him back to the docs as they can get ill very quickly once they are.

got this from another site:

Here are some signs of dehydration to watch out for:

Sleepiness
Irritability
Thirst
Less elasticity in the skin
Eyes and fontanel (or soft spot on head) appear sunken
Decrease or absence of tears
Dry mouth
Decrease number of wet diapers

got to run!

Oh no, poor baby

Sam is also teething but luckily is not suffering as much as poor Traivys. He is off his milk a bit but i think it's cos it's warm so he's been having milk at room temp and he likes ice cold out the fridge water to sip. Is traivys old enough to chew on some cucumber? I guess just try and get what you can in him but I think I might be tempted to ring doc out of hours for advice cos he def needs dome fluid so he doesn't get dry. Just as an aside have you ever tried ashtons and parson teething powders? They work wonders on Sam. Good luck sweetie, hope you can get some food down him x x x

Thanks guys

Traivys is actually drinking water which is funny cos normally he wont touch it so at least he wont get dehydrated lol. I've only just started him on solids - baby rice etc so I htink he might find cucumber a bit alien right now

I've just put some ashton and parsons powders on his tounge so fingers crossed

You poor love

sounds like you are both suffering....

I was going to suggest Ashtons and Parsons too as this works a treat if Emily is out of sorts....

Let us know how you get on - when you have had lots of sleep.

Lots of love
