Shopping

Hi hope all are well?

Just wondering what other people spend on groceries a week/month. I must go to the supermarket at least twice a week and sometimes the shop too for milk and bread, aargh i think i spend too much, currently £70 a week for me OH and Zac-18 months. Any tips on how to cut back

Shopping

Hello!

I spend from £80 up to £130 per week in a shop which is so expensive. I shop at Sainsburys and when I have to buy Aptimal, nappies and washing powder in one shop then it mounts up. I try and buy these things on special offer however Aptimal is NEVER on special offer!! I cannot believe how much our shopping is now. I try and plan the meals for the week and we do have alot of home cooked food, slow cooked meals, shepherds pie etc etc. Makes me laugh coz the child benefit I get doesnt touch the sides (£80 per month). I did try shopping at Asda but I hated it!!!!

The only way I can cut back my shop is to not buy any wine but a girl has gotta have some pleasure!!

Hey

My bill goes sky high cos i always end up finding something for megan lol.

Go onto mysupermarket.com, go onto the shop you normally shop at, pick the stuff you normally do and it will show you which is cheaper and will also show all the best deals in that supermarket. I think you can then order it off that site but ive never done that bit, but it helps me plan what i need to get instead of what i want to get

Planning........

I plan out main meals for the week... Then write a list of what we need.. Then go on mysupermarket.co.uk and put it all in and see where it is cheapest to shop for that week... I buy our eggs and veg locally from a farm and most of our meat... We eat really fresh foods but I do tend to cook for two days at a time so I'm not a slave to the stove every night... For example if I make a bolognase I make enough for two days and just steam fresh veg and cook fresh pasta and garlic bread the next day... I try and do red meat, chicken and fish on rotation so we get a good variety... I only buy the things we use loads of e.g washing powder, toilet rolls etc when they're on offer and then i buy loads and wait til they're on offer again..! On mysupermarket you can keep a list of the things you buy every week saved so you can just out it in and see wo has it on offer that week.... I just think supermarkets can be the biggest rip off sometimes so try foor one week using the local butchers, greengrocers fishmongers etc.... This week I'm doing salmon and brocolli potato bake, beef chilli tacos and then on the weekend i will do jerk chicken, rica and peas, macaroni etc which is our kind of roast dinner lol....
Hope that helps hun xx danica and cadene 1

Omg

You sound sooooo organised I will def try the mysupermarket as we have all the big supermarkets within driving distance of us. We do use our local farm shop for sunday dinner but not thought of local greengrocers etc.
In week i cook mon-thurs, friday shove something in oven or at least something easy, takeaway saturday and late sunday lunch.
This week i've done tuna & black eyed bean salad with crusty bread, baked tomato couscous and beef burgers then chicken & cannellini bean stew, baked cheesy leeks with ham & corn, and steak, homemade chips and peppers sauce.

That's made me hungry lol

sounds like a lovely dinner round yours hun yeah i try to do something small on a saturday because i do a big dinner sunday but i dont really like takeaways so i just do something i can whack in the oven but still healthy for the baby.. i like going to the butchers and greengrocers because you get what is in season.... i walk down there with deanie so it's a trip out too without her being stuck in the car... hope that helps hun... i've just been to tescos and spent £40 mind but that's because they had baby oil, persil liquid and the pasta i like on offer so i stocked up lol... xxx danica and cadene xxx

Me, my partner, rosie and our dog spend between £70 - £90. The £90 is very rare but its when we need to buy, washing powder, toilet roll, tooth paste, dish washer tablets.

It all adds up!... I know in tesco u can buy 3 lots of meat for £10, its the cheap stuff but it taste just as good as the other stuff. So we buy Chicken, Minced Meat and Salmon thats 3 meals sorted just need to buy bits to go with it.

You can also look at things that u dont really need, like we buy the tesco finest 4 for £4.50 well you can buy cheaper yougerts then that so we do that.

Also its not always food, we do buy a top or something for rosie, or a DVD etc.

Hope this helps!

Omg

this is so weird, my cousin & I were talking about this yesterday & I realised I need to cut back.

My cousin has a husband, 3 boys (ages 2, 6 & 9), a stepdaughter (weekend) & only spends £60 per week on shopping - & they had salmon & pasta last night!!!

We spend about £75 to £90 per week & there is only DP & I & formula for Thomas.

The advise my cousin gave was to plan the whole week's meals. That's about it really! I tried it last night but got bored lol. The problem I'm worried about is having the same week in week out, but cousin says that doesn't happen

Most websites like Sainsbury's for example, you can search for recipes, add to your basket, do a shopping list & see how much it costs.

Hope this helps hun

Hey

OMG, £60 for 5 people, wish I could do that. My average bill used to be £135-145 per week and that was shopping at Tescos. By the way, theres me, hubby and 5 boys aged between 14 months-8 years. A couple of weeks ago I started shopping at Morrisons and my bill has gone down to £120 per week

I used to plan meals but dont now, I could guarentee I would still forget somethin lol. We have take-outs once every couple of weeks.........kebabs yum yum!!!!!

I will have a look at the website that someone mentioned earlier, sounds good

Hugs

Hi sarah

i'm always much better at organising than budgeting! I have a magnetic shopping list on the fridge and pop stuff on there as soon as we run out so i don't forget-it saves time too, then i just add the stuff for our planned meals to it and always try to use stuff we have in-tins from the cupboard, etc. I too am going to get myself on mysupermarket when i have a min it sounds great- as i'm still spending a fortune and i've been xmas shopping already and got a bit carried away oops

Hi

seems like £70 is average then? I used to pile everything into my trolley but now try to look for bargains and offers. And-OH's tip-get the stuff from the back of the shelves with the longest date on so you've less chance of it getting wasted. We too get the 3 meats fro a tenner but OH likes huge portions and has to have the best cuts of steak-grrr so they don't last long. We plan our meals in advance but it doesn't seem to help with cutting the budget just with organising our week!
I do have loads of yummy recipes though so if anybody wants any just let me know
