Medised - any advice please??

Hey ladies,

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on this having used it?

Isla is really poorly at the mo with teething, she's already got 6 teeth but these next lot are really giving her grief.

Went to the docs this morning as it did look like a poss ear infection, but they said it looks like teething.

She's off her food, is DRENCHED in snot (sorry) is up in the night, is either screaming or just clinging to me and whimpering and is generally a really unhappy little lady at the mo,

Dr told me to give her ibuprofen as calpol doesn't seem to be working for her anymore, but a friend of mine just told me to try medised. She said she used it with her toddler when he was a baby and it sorted out all the symptoms and helped with sleep but the guidelines all changed about using for children under 6yrs.

I've googled it and had a read and when you read the official line it does sound a bit scary and not to be used, but like she said - for decades and decades it's been used for teething, so I'm really unsure.

I really want to make Isla feel better and get some sleep as she's exhausted (and actually so am I now), but I will basically have to lie to the pharmacist to get it and just feel a bit uneasy about it all.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Love N & v unhappy Isla (10 months) xx

Thanks girls xx

We tried ibuprofen last night at bedtime but she has starting spitting medicine everywhere so no idea how much actually went in her (even giving it to her with a syringe)!! That said, she didn't wake up in the night so the little bit she did get must have helped!

She's still really really whiney and clingy today though so she doesn't seem much better today and the snot is still coming by the gallon, it's awful

Thanks again for all your help xxxx

Hi Nickki,
Just a quick reply as i have to fly, i gave emily calprofen when she was really bad with teething, i spoke to the pharmacy and they said it would be ok. I swear by the stuff!

Tc and hope Isla feels better soon

Medised

yes, they have changed the guideline HOWEVER I went to my doc as i too thought ben had an ear infection when he was 9 months.....it was teething too but the doc could see he was in pain and prescribed medised. i was under strict instuctions to only use it sparingly and not just to help him sleep but it was taken off the market as parents were using it to get the little ones to sleep.

by the way, it upset bens tummy a bit and we had awful nappies...even worse than teeting ones.

i would suggest, calpol then 2 hours later ibuprofen then 2 hours later calpol and so on so she always has something in her system, just make sure she has eaten before ibuprofen as i know from personla experiance that it can upset your tummy.

hope this helps

xx

Aw poor Isla x

Just quick tip as don't wanna repeat what others have already said, but although it's not a cure I found my little girl gets some pain relief even if only temporary from sucking on a frozen frube.....do you know the one's i mean?....they are safe to pop in the freezer, yummy aswell as helping the pain!

The guidelines

Changed in December last year!

Pity as a friend of mine swore by the stuff and she gave it to her son very early on.

Hiya,
I'v just looked in my cupboard n I have medised in there!!
My oldest is nearly 4 n I got it over the counter so guessin the guides on using it have changed quite recently.
I haven't used it 4 ages but I think its just like the childrens ibuprofen so I would just try her with that instead. They all seem 2 have the same things in them n state they r 4 the same symptoms.
I'd try the infant paracetmol/ ibuprofen 1st hun.
Hope shee picks up soon, poor tot!!!

Thanks

Yes- it changed earlier this year, March I think it was.
Apparently there are still bottles being sold with the packagaing saying for babies, but only because the reprinting and repackaging will take so long, so have to ask pharmacist for it who will explain all this.

Thats why I'd have to fib and say it was for a child, but if god forbid something happened I'd feel awful having fibbed to get it!!!!

I think I might go for the ibuprofen, like you say...

Am hating all this though

Oh rite,
well like i say, i have looked at them all n they r very close in havin the same stuff in them, paracetmol etc n same dosages. i have a supermarkets own brand infant ibuprofen thats wrked well . maybe go n ask at the chemists hun.
all the best then.

Oh...

have u used ashton & parsons infant powders that u rub onto gums.
they r herbal n can be used with other medications as well. woth a go!

Yes

have tried the A & P powders, and also the nelsons ones, but they don't seem to help, but I've still got loads left so will give them another go - anything is worth a try at the moment.

I saw on another thread somewhere about spoons in the fridge so she's now chewing a spoon watching an old episode of 'In the night garden' and seems a bit happier but I know it won't last. Going to go for a big walk after tea and see if that helps take her mind off it too.

Flipping teeth. Thanks again xx

this is so annoying!

last year in september, when oliver was 7 months old he got a very bad dose of chicken pox. i gave him medised before bed each night as the antihistamine helped with the itching and also helped him sleep better. whilst i thin calpol is wonderful stuff, i thought medised was fantastic.

then they changed the guidelines and i was gutted because i think it was brilliant stuff and it most certainly helped oliver when he was poorly.

tis a total bummer!
love kelly, oliver 20 months and emilie 26 weeks tomorrow (i think!)
