Hello! getting 7 month old to nap???

Hi all haven't been on here for absolutely aaaaaages!! I seem to be kept quite busy with a certain little 7 and half mth old Elise who is now crawling, standing and generally being hyperactive....

My question is getting her to sleep for her naps. she's learned how to pull herself up in her cot so whereas I used to lie her in her cot when she was tired and wait beside her and she'd fall asleep, now she starts instantly climbing up to stand even when she really really tired. So I've resorted to rocking her to sleep in my arms. I'm frightened to leave her in her cot to cry and climb until she falls asleep herself because worried she'll fall and bang head on other side of cot (already happened couple of times) - but I don't want to get her in the habit of falling asleep in my arms - textbook error!!

Any ideas girls - and hope everyone is well xxx Lea and Elise xxx

Thx

thx everyone. Think I'm going to try everything you've suggested!!
Gonna pad the cot a bit and maybe leave her to it, might also try the pushchair thing.... and thats for that toy idea Elizabeth, been looking for something like that, gonna order one right now!!

Nikki, she normally falls on her bum but has had a couple of incidents where she's fallen down faster and hasn't has time to right herself so has gone down quite hard..... suppose it's gonna happen, naptimes or not, so will just have to leave her to learn for herself! If I pad the cot a bit think I'll worry less anyway.

She's here now, bombing around room in baby-walker - normally would've been naptime but I have to wait til she's almost dropping down with tiredness before I can attempt to try and get her to sleep!!

Oh the joys!

Thx again girlies xxxx

What i done

was to put Francis in his buggy laid back to pop off to sleep by himself as like you, I didn't want him relying on being rocked. Once he was asleep I'd put him in his cot after a few minutes.

Hiya,
This is a rite pain when they start movin ain ... !!
Well we had this with 1st baby n we ended up resorting 2 padding the cot out with sum extra carpet we had!!!
We cable tied it over the cot sides so she couldn't bump herself, climb up the bars, or get hands n feet stuck between them!
(It didn't particulary look attractive but did the trick!)
My little one was a great sleeper so just had 2 have her favourite blanket n she would sleep when tired.
Tricky one really. I would try a few things like the toys etc n see wot wrks. Good luck hun. xx

Hellooooo

Hey Lea, hope you're well hun,

What does Elise do when she pulls herself up on other stuff, like the sofa or whatever? does she just sort of drop to her bum or does she fall right over and go sprawling?

Isla did have a couple of episodes of bumping her head in her cot, but nothing serious, and I do think it sort of got to her to learn to drop to her bum. I remember only being worried about this for a couple of weeks before it stopped being a problem (like when they roll onto tummies and can't get back over for a couple of weeks!hehe).

I'm thinking if she can show that she can drop to her bum then she'll soon be getting the hang of doing it in her cot.

Also - do you ever hear her stirring during the night and having a good old chat? cos I imagine she's probably stood up and got back down a couple of times then if so.

I know what you mean about rocking her to sleep - we went through a phase of rocking Isla to sleep a couple of months back when she started to play up at bedtime and it just got horrendous when we tried to stop it and caused us loads of probs that were harder to undo in the end. (got there in the end with a LOT of controlled crying )

Just re-read and I've not been much help at all!!! lol, sorry!

Good luck, Love N & Isla xxxxxxx

How about

trying something to make her want to lie down and play - a toy on the side of the cot?

could be worth a shot?
