How many feeds a day?

It is me again (you can tell I am a new mum!) I used to feed my baby on demand but these days she doesn't give away clear clues and would go without a feed for hours! I then started to feed her every two hours but someone told me I should space it out so she feeds longer at each feed and gets the richer milk.
Is it too long to go 3 hours between feeds? I breastfeed.

Thanks

Thanks Ladies. I am feeling better now. Wasnt sure if I went too long between feeds.

Ashira had a strange evening last night. She cried for two hours after I put her down, sucking her finger. I think she might be teething but there is no obvious other sign. Gums are not red or swollen. So don't know....but Calpol did the trick in the end.

thanks again

Hi hun

i breastfeed siri on demand - she doesn't cry when hungry, but she does start grumbling and blow raspberries lol
the times between feeds have varied a great deal. to start with we had to make sure she fed every 3 hours (as she was early and very ill to start with) then we went to every 4 hours - she would sometimes have a bit of a nibble, as it were, in between those times and sometimes just to cosy - but it's all good and all increases your supply. sometimes she would ask every hour lol, but those were ke dager (as they call them here in norway - translation - increasing production days) - it is important to let her feed when she wants so your supply keeps up.
it isn't too easy to tell which milk your little one is getting as she will control the flow and how much she gets - but the most important thing is to make sure - as much as possible - that she empties one boob before she gets the other. and alternate boobs each feed - if you start with the right side on one feed, start with the left next time.

i think she will let you know when she is hungry - but do whatever works for you. 3 hours is fine - i's what they do with premature babies, so if they are fine with it, then your beauty will be too

siri now feeds sometimes every 2 hours, sometimes she goes 4 or 5 - it really depends what we are doing - if we are in, then more frequent feeds, but if we are out and she is interested in stuff, then she'll go longer. but then she is nearly 9 months now!

hmm, not sure if i've been any help there, lol

hugs

Hi

When i breastfed it was every 2-3 hours but rosie was only 2 weeks old, then i went over to bottle and she now goes 3-4 hours on 6 - 7oz bottles 4 - 5 times a day, i did have her in a nice routine which in the last week she hasnt stuck to so im judging when she is hungry which is hard when she is teething aswell, but i usally can tell when she gets fussy, if i give her cooled boiled water and she takes it fast i know she is hungry or if i rub her cheek or chin she usally goes for my finger so hard to know sometimes.

I would speak with ur HV to just check with them but i would say every 3 hours is fine!

Hope this helped in some way

xxxx Lucy

Hey hun

I feed Archie every 4-5 hours, he normally demands it. He can go longer if hes asleep or we're out and about. I dont wake him to feed tho. Hes bottle fed.
Your baby will tell you if shes really hungry, I wouldnt worry too much aslong as she gains weight and the hv is happy. It gives your boobs a rest too!!

Also

I meant to say, Archie is on 4 or 5 5oz-7oz feeds a day, he doesnt normally wake in the night now so normally 4

Hey

Megan is bottlefed but she goes between 3 to 4 hours, sometimes longer.
Its rare she goes more than 5 hours.

If she doesnt give you clear signs, try going upto 3 hours and see how she gets on, if it doesnt work for you then try 2 and a half, but once she is properly hungry she will def give you clear signs.

Not too sure........

............... i feed on demand even now at 12 months.....! but if i remember correctly i used to feed on demand when she was younger and offer it after 2/3 hours if she hadn't asked for a feed.... you're lucky cause cadene would cry as soon as she was hungry but i suppose at least i knew that she was hungry....... just do what you think is best, i can see what your friend meant because a longer feed means your little one should get the foremilk and hindmilk... not much help am i...?
there is a lovely lady on here called elizabeth who would be much more help so hopefully she will see your post
ask away hun it's not easy being a new mum xxxxxxxxxxx danica and cadene 12 months xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
