Kettle...

Does anyone know how to de-scale a kettle?... As im using my kettle alot more now im noticing its becoming scaled up and i dont want the scale going into my babys bottles, ive boiled the kettle and scrubed the inside of the kettle but the scale doesnt seem to have gone? Any safe ideas?

Also does anyone know how often we should change a kettle as i know using it to many times can burn the water?

Scaleaway

Hi Lucy

We have this problem as we live in a hard water area. I have to descale my kettle once a week as I use this for Emily's bottles.

I use Scaleaway which you can get in any supermarket. You pop it in the water once boiled and leave to clear then make sure you boil and wash out the water about 3 times before using it for bottles or anything else.

Descaler

You can buy little packets of descaler in supermarkets that you just tip in and leave to soak (30 mins I think?) then you just flush out and reboil a couple of times.

(It's the same stuff for kettles and irons - think it's just called scale away or something, in a blue box). Hope this helps!

Me again

Just looked at ours in the cupboard, it's made by 'Oust', just called scale remover and it takes 10 mins not 30 mins. even better!

White vinegar

mix up white vinegar and hot water abouthalf and half and let it sit for a few hours... scrub it... then boiling water and lemon juice in the kettle to get rid of the smell..
i've got a brita kettle which is a godsend.........! it filters the water before you boil it..........

Hi hun,

can't help much with the kettle problem, our water is really hard here and I've never managed to find a way to keep my kettle completely scale free so I boil all the water for Kaitlyns bottles in a saucepan on the stove instead. Tend to make all mine up in one go and leave the bottles of water in the fridge for when I need them so it's no more hassle to do it this way, might be a bit trickier if you make them up one at a time though.

Love and hugs,
Clare xxx
