Couple of teething questions.....

hi mummies

just wanted to pick your brains about teething. euan is 15 weeks now and i'm pretty sure he's teething-chewing his hands/toys/my finger and pretty much anything he can get his hands on, dribbling a lot (poor wee thing has a sore lil chin from it), generally a bit restless and grumpy, crying for what seems like no reason (well prob his lil teeths hurting!)

I just wondered what you all did about sterilizing? I mean i sterilise the obvious things like teething rings and teething dummies, but what are you meant to do about toys? he literally puts EVERYTHING in his mouth at the mo, including the soft toys that hangdown from his gym! how are you meant clean those?

Also Euan is exclusively breastfed and seems to be feeding more often than usual (about every 2hrs during the day) i dont really mind as he's always demand fed, i just wondered if it was normal?

thanks ladies

Thanks ladies

I've been cool water sterilizing the dummies and teethers so guess i'll just on doing that. gonna try not to stress too much about it cos he's gonna put everything in his mouth anyway! heehee

Oh and a lil tip a friend gave me was Milton wipes-dunno if anyone else uses these but it means you can clean stuff when you're out and about which i thought was pretty handy

Hi kate!

I exclusively breastfed all my 4 and never even bought a sterilizer!!! I just make sure things stay fairly clean........ try not to worry too much though, I have found that too sterile an environment stops them building up natural immunity and tolerance to germs. My new dishwasher has been a godsend for plastic toys!! I just bung them all in there now and they come out like new!! Soft toys can be sponged down and some can go in machine on low heat wash.
Remember he will have really high immunity to germs around your environment from your milk anyway!
As for feeding every 2 hours he could be on a growth spurt or he could just be feeding for comfort if his gums are hurting him............. feeding actually releases painkilling endorphines which help to soothe them. Mine have never fed to a pattern as I have demand fed them too and it can vary a lot!

Good luck with it all! Love Tracey XXXXX

When Rosie first had all her soft toys i washed them and made sure they were fully dry i havent wahsed them since? hmmm she seems fine though? I wash her muslin cloths, MR.Frog comfort blanket as she uses these quite alot and drops them.

As for the teethers i just run boiled water over them and pop straight into fridge?... not sure if this is ok but Rosie is fine and as for the hard rattles and toys etc if she drops them on floor i will wipe them with a wet wipe or again run them under boiled water.

Can you actually pop those rubbery wierd shaped dummies in a electric sterliser?

Hey

just seen the pics of euan, he looks soooo cute. how fast is the time going. i think megan is a day older than euan.

With the toys i clean them with dettol, everything is going in megans mouth from bibs to sleeves to anything she can get her hands on, as for the soft toys i put them in the wash once a week, they say not too but its better than chewing old uncleaned toys, i use a lint roller over them too just to clear any bits that may have come off in the wash.

Megan has started feeding little and often since teething, and it seems to help her gums as her bottles are room temp.

Hope your both ok

Mine 2...

Hi there,
Yep I have this 2! My baby is 4 month 2day( by date anyway!)
She has started 2 put hands n toys etc in2 mouth now. At 1st I was sure it was just the fact that she had found her hands but does put things in now.
Her gums are hard n whiter so is getting ready. HV told me 2 use calprofen rather than calpol as better 4 teething pain. I also use calgel and ashton & parsons powders.
As 4 cleaning I have a 4 yr old n kids constantly rnd baby so things aren't 100% clean with little hands n toys being shoved at her!!!lol.
I clean the obvious, teethers, hard plastic toys and I have sum sterlising wipe type things that I use around the house which r safe 4 toys. As 4 the teddies I just surface wash these as n when they get very soiled!!! I have put sum in the washer( even though they say not 2!) they have been fine n not dropped 2 bits so all good!
It is a pain when they start 2 put stuff in their mouths. It gets worse with the little toys etc. I will have 2 drill in in 2 my older one not 2 leave stuff hanging around! Oh the joys!!!
