Weaning advice. gluten free

My baby is putting on weight a bit slow. She used to be on the 75th percentile and has now dropped to the 25th. I am breastfeeding and for the second time I have been advised to start weaning her. She is 17 weeks old now.
I know it has to be gluten free. So fruit and veggies are ok, right?
I don't really want to wean yet but she is only 5.94kgs now and keeps waking up at night. I have not slept in so long. On top of this she is now teething and has a cold. i am so very tired!

Hiya,
Well I have just started weaning. I have gone with the baby rice or formula mixed with rusks. My baby only has a few mouthfuls a day at the mo.
I really wouldn't worry about her weight though. My baby weighs less than urs. She is 17 wk and 4 days and has been weighed 2day. She is only 5.56 kg, 12lb 4oz.
HV not concerned with her weight now as its consistant. They haven't recommended weaning but she is always watching us and putting everything in her mouth. She is taking the baby rice well. Literally only a few spoonfuls a day but I will just keep it at this 4 a while as she is still very young.
All the best hun, mummyand2. xx

Hi

Hi
It is not the weight itself that concerned the HV but the slow gaining on the chart. She used to be on the 75th percentile line and has now dropped slowly to the 25th. So that is why they suggested it.
She does seem happy and alert though. I will give it another two weeks or so, closer to five months.

Hey katy

We starting weaning at about 20wks and just used to give Olivia baby rice at first. She wasnt too keen on that so I started introducing really smooth fruit and veg purees - I'd suggest sweet potato as a good first taster as it blends down to a really smooth consistency. Mango is another good soft one.

I'm sure someone will be able to give you some more solid advice but I didnt want to leave you hanging.

I sympathise with the lack of sleep, I know how awful I've felt when Olivia's been through stages of waking up all night. Try and get some sleep whenever she does and take it easy. The chores can wait!

Take care,
Shelley & Olivia x

thank you, I will try the sweet potato and mango for starters!
