One gross question and one dumb question....!

Hi there,

Sorry more stupid questions - Emily, as some of you know has a cold. She has a cough which has changed from a dry cough to a plemmy cough. She was awake from 11.30pm until 1am last night as she could not breathe through her nose and she was really coughing we did eventually settle her with calpol. Obviously us adults if we have plemm (sp) we get rid of it by spitting it out but babies cannot do that, or blow their nose.

Is there a way of getting rid of all this gloop - I am hoping she might sick it up but I cannot see any other way of trying to get rid of this stuff??

Also, when making baby rice with fruit, porridge (basically food) can I use normal full fat milk rather than formula?? I think I can which would mean saving some money if I am only using the formula milk for drinking only...

Sorry if these are dumb questions but thats what this site is for.

Thanks
Natalie & Emily xx

Hiya

Ahhh poor Emily. I think that the things I would suggest have been mentioned, saline drops, nose aspirator, Sam hates this but it works and is strangely satisfying! We were also bought a plug in thing from boots that you pop a thing in and it releases menthol into the air keeping airways clear. This thing has a name but I am having a severe case of baby brain and cannot for the life of me think of the word!

I am also confused about the milk issue. I have been using milk in readybrek but Sam isn't that keen on it so have gone back to cow and gate baby cereal that you just pour a bit of the formula in and mix. I think if you are using it in cooking i.e. heating it then it is ok?!

Sorry...not much help really...hope Emily is better x x x

Tubes

They also sell those small kinda plastic tubes that help you get stuff out of her nose. I saw it in waitrose the other day but I am sure they sell them in other places too. It is about £6.

Ashira had the cold too and I put wet towels on the radiators and put a few drops of Oilbas oil on them, too. I raised the mattress and it seemed to help a bit. Calpol also helped.

Hope she feels better soon

Hi hun,

dunno if you're already doing it but it helps if they're not lying completely flat too, I just use phone books under the legs at the head end of Kaitlyn's cot. Completely gross to think about but if she's propped up the gunk should just slide down her throat without making her cough, might make her nappies a bit unpleasant though, be warned! That's the only other thing I can think of that might help, hope Emily's better soon hun.

Love and hugs,

Hey

Hey all and Good Morning

Yep, we propped up the mattress with two beach towels, Emily was so tired last night she went to sleep without her dummy - OMG!! However at 9.30pm she woke up crying as she could not breathe through her nose so she had a nappy change a cuddle then some calpol and she went straight back down until 6.30am this morning so a better night.

Thanks Girls !!

"4 little 1"

Hi,
If u google " 4 little 1" that is a site with stuff for babies with colds etc.
They have all different equipment 4 the removable n help with this kinda stuff. I have been looking at investing as tot quite bunged up 2. Not nice.
Get well soon Emily. mummyand2. xx

Also

you can get saline nasal drops, you squirt a couple of drops up each nostril and it makes them sneeze, or tickle the inside of each nostril with some tissue.

What dumb questions

only joking hun... poor emily i think the only way is just to steam as much of it out as you can and just wait for the cold to dry out... also once she's had a steam bath put her on her tummy on your knee and pat her back to help her cough it up (gross i know )
have you tried something with glycerol like baby tixylix, it just coats their throat to stop the coughing... have you got one of those plug ins calpol/karvol etc....? i used one with cadene last week when she was snotty and it heloped her to sleep... also put two tbsp of vicks in very very hot water in a bowl near the head of her bed
umm thats all i can think of
and yes you can use full fat cows milk in their food just not as a drink as in to replace a feed.....
hope she feels better soon hunni xxxxxxxxxxxx
