Feeding every 2 hours

Hi my baby is almost 4 weeks now, had to go onto formula when hubby went back to work as couldn't be sitting there for 3 hours with my 18 month old running round not fare, anyway little vin is on about 4 oz of aptimil and he's having it every 2 hours thru day and night, i don't remember when i went onto hungry baby formula with frankie, is this to early? i'm bloody knackered lol, i've tried giving more oz but he falls asleep with no chance of waking him after 3or 4 oz, also he'sstill sleep[ing loads in the day, is that normal, he has a cold so might be wacked from that but i have forgotten what frankie was like even tho i did this all with him recently,
all i hear is how well other babies sleep thru the night, i've never had that, must be nice, i would just like to go past 2 hourly feeds

Patience and time i'm afraid...

Léonie was feeding little and often as well when she was a month old. She would have a bottle every 2 to 3 hours and only 2 or 3 oz each time, day and night! It is hard, especially when you have a toddler to look after as well. I find it very tiring to look after them two so i know how you can feel. My advice, as unhelpful as it can sound, would be to follow your baby's lead. All of a sudden at around 8 weeks, Leonie increased the time between her feeds and took a bit more each time. I didn't force anything because from experience with my first I know it just doesn't work. My daughter is now 12 weeks and she's doing much better, waking up only once a night. She even had 3 full nights this weekend! We're talking a couple of months down the line here. Your little boy is still very very young and with a very little tummy. He will gradually go longer between feeds but give him time. I know it seems impossible sometimes, but it DOES get better.
I'm not a huge fan of hungry baby formula myself, I think that it's more for the comfort of parents than babies ; it makes babies feel very heavy and that's why they go longer between feeds but I'm not sure it's great for them - I think that's why HV are not too keen on it either. Having said that, I'm sure lots of mums would disagree and as each baby is different your best bet would be to talk about it with your HV.
good luck with it all hon,
xxx

Thanks to all of you for advice, its making sense, i'll hold off hungry formula and feed him as he needs, i like to check in every so often with you all to see what you'd do i know i always get sound advice x

Mine 2...

Hi there,
Well my baby is 18 wk now n she has been on 4 oz bottles every 2 hours frm early on.
She has reflux so has little n often. She 2 sleeps quite alot during the day. My now 4 yr old used 2 sleep loads til a toddler!
They r all so different! It is difficult 2 keep up with the sterlising the feeding though aint it?!
HV said this is just her pattern. She does however sleep through the nite n has done frm round 10 wk, 7pm til 7pm.
Hava chat 2 the HV as they will advice better on the formula. Mine said that if she went on to 5 oz bottles n kept bein sick that it was 2 much volume so I would have 2 go on 2 stage 2 but she hasnt had more than 4 oz as yet.
All the best,
mummyand2. xx

Hey

4 weeks already? its amazing how time is flying.

Before going onto hungry baby talk to your hv, they seem to be really funny about it for some reason. I wouldnt say its too early though, Megan went onto hungry baby at 4 weeks, but that was after the hv told me too.

Poor lil man getting a cold, maybe try holding off on the hungry baby till thats gone and see what happens to feeding after that, only problem is then you hit the growth spurt stages.

Megan slept through for a few weeks now gets up once or twice in the night, but she is quite easy to settle back down unlike before when it would take an hour each time, then she would be up an hour later.

Sorry not too much help but talk to hv and see what they say.

Good luck and hope you get some sleep soon

Nat and Megan xxxx
