Sleepless nights. advice please! i am so tired!!

Anyone help me please!!!
My baby is now almost 5 months old. She still wakes up about 3 to 4 times a night! I don't get more than 3 hours sleep in one stretch!! She used to sleep a lot better with at least 5 hours in one go but for weeks now this has not happened anymore. I breastfeed her and she is also on solids due to my HV recommending it (she had a slow weight gain).
I always put her to bed awake after a feed and she falls asleep by herself without the help of a dummy or anything. I just don't understand why she won't settle back to sleep at night just like she does at nap times and at bed time! I have to get up, feed her, put her back and she falls asleep again just fine without crying! Could she really be that hungry? I am desperate! Or is it to be expected with such a young baby still? I sometimes went in to her to reassure her that I was around but didn't feed her. The crying just got worse and she wouldn't calm down for an hour - at this point I gave in and fed her after which she fell asleep again.

sounds to me like she is just comfort sucking...I breast fed mia for 8/9 months and she never slept through the night, even now at 17 months old she stiill wakes at night for milk!!!! (formula!!)

it does sound like she is having a growth spurt, too, they have them all the time at that age, it will pass hun!

In the mean time, maybe try giving her a dummy for comfort or have you tried some water as she may be thirsty??

Hope that helps

Breastfed babies

hi hun... i do think its the nature of breastfed babies that they sleep for shorter periods at night... i've been breastfeeding for 13 months and my daughter still goes through phases of needing a few feeds at night... she started solids at 6 months which helped a bit.... when she is like this i let her feed when she is hungry because it will increase my milk supply to match her demand but the lack of sleep can be hard i know... if you give formula then your body will not have the chance to catch up with her.... could you express a bottle before bed so someone else could feed her....? it will pass hun and i hope you get some more sleep soon... xxxxxxxxx danica and cadene xxxxxxxxxxx

Hey

Do you think maybe she might be having a growth spurt?

Megan seems to have lots of little random growth spurts.

Hope you get some proper sleep soon

Hmmmmmmmmm

Like Nat said, she may be having a growth spurt.
It might be worth introducing a formula bottle before bed, see if that helps? I found Archie settled much better on the bottle and he soon was sleeping through. He now goes from his 8-9pm feed too 10am.
If you dont mind giving up a breastfeed its worth a try, it wont do her any harm xx

I really hope things get sorted and you get some well deserved sleep soon hun xx

Bottle

I have tried the bottle two nights ago for her night feed. Didn't make a difference. Or does it only make a difference in the long run?

Thanks to both of you
