Bedtime bottle help

Hi Ladies

I'm having trouble getting Dylan to take his bedtime bottle
He feeds well on solids etc throughout the day and doesn't have a problem with milk as such but he is soo tired at bedtime he just wants to go to sleep.
I've tried an extra nap a little later in the afternoon but this diesn't seem to make a difference.
Yesterday he woke from his last nap around 3.30pm he had his dinner around 4pm then he had a bath at 5.15pm ready for bed by 5.45pm and then was soo tired he only had 3 oz of his cos bottle he just wants to sleep.

He was then awake at 8.30pm as he was hungry.

This is now happening pretty much every day so i have resorted to letting him fall asleep on me and then giving him the feed and popping him in bed but don't want to carry on like this as he falls asleep on his own at nap times or if he wakes etc and i don't wan to ruin that.

Any ideas or suggestions ??

Just wondered how your bedtime routines went and are they more successful lol

Thanks

Em & Dylan 7 mnths x x

We had this problem....

Emily used to fall asleep on the bottle and when she was younger she had an afternoon nap and as long as she was awake again by 5pm then we would generally be okay but I remember that Emily used to fall asleep before she had even a couple of ounces. Now you are going to ask how we overcame this - well I don't recall - Emily has cut out her late afternoon nap so her last sleep would be from 12.30pm to approx 1.45 - sometimes 2pm but no later than 2.30pm. She is grotty from about 5.45pm until bedtime milk but a bath normally solves this and she generally takes 4-5 ounces at bedtime. I guess she has got used to this routine and takes her milk as she knows she is going to bed.

Has Dylan always done this? Our routine is as follows:-

awake from lunchtime nap approx 1.45 but sometimes later
mid afternoon milk at approx 2.30pm - 3pm
Tea between 4.30pm - 5pm
then play, Daddy comes home so he takes Emily upstairs to play
Bath every other night, normally about 6.15pm - she loves her bath so stops her being grotty
Bedtime milk at approx 6.30pm and in bed by 7pm - sparko!!

She goes thru the night, apart from the other night when she would not settle and I gave her milk and she took 4 ounces!!!

Really stupid question but what teats are you using - I am guessing they are number 3 as you say that Dylan has no problem during the day feeding.....

Not alot of help me rambling

Hi hun

Thanks for replying i was starting to think no one was talking to me lol !!

He has been doing this for quite a while but I'll be returning to work soon and working some evenings so want to make bedtime as easy as poss incase Daddy has to do it lol.

Its funny you should mention teats .. he has no 3 teats but last night at bedtime i used a slightly faster flowing teat ( an asda vari flow one ) and he drank 5 oz then we were able to put him down awake and let him fall asleep.

Gonna try the same teat tonight and see if it works again. Maybe he's just very impatient when hes tired - can't think where he gets that from lol.

Hope Emily's next session at nursery goes better ... Let us know

t care
