Milk after 12 months

Hi all, Kaitlyn turns one in 3 weeks (where did that go lol) and just wondered how quickly everyone switched to cows milk? Also do I still need to sterilise milk bottles once she's having cows milk or is it just the formula that's full of bacteria? Seems a bit abrupt to just switch all at once, is that what everyone else has done or do I need to give some cows and some formula for a while to get her tummy used to it? She does have cows milk on cereal now and has had no problems just don't want to upset anything by changing too suddenly. Thanks, hope you're all well don't seem to have time for more than a quick read these days!

Lotsa love,
Clare and Kaitlyn xxx

Thanks girls,

gonna bite the bullet and stop sterilising now, think I just needed someone to give me a kick about it cos know I don't need to do it and am being over cautious yet again! Nikki I'm so glad we're worrying about the same things again, helps loads to know I'm not on my own so bring on the list of woes hun you're more than welcome. Know what you mean about it taking ages to get a decent amount down them with a cup, Kaitlyn's exactly the same, loves to play with them and fling them around but not so much drinking going on! Does sound like a gradual swapover is the way to go, we'll just have to give it a try and see how it goes, they'll soon let us know if they're not happy that's for sure. Think I've pretty much decided to give the follow on milk a miss, Kaitlyn's diet is good and her appetite is huge so feel pretty happy she's getting what she needs without it. Keep me informed how you get on and I'll do the same, thanks everyone for your advice.

Lotsa love,
Clare and Kaitlyn xxx

Hi there,
I used the follow on milk but my baby didnt take 2 it n fussed over botles anyway by this stage so I moved her onto cows milk after her 1st b.day. She only had nite time n mornin bottles at this stage n I had been usin cows milk in food etc for a while.
Maybe weaning her from the formula with a few bottles of each will be best?! Why not ask the HV hun, they always say yeah or nay!!!
good luck.
Time does fly doesnt it?!xx

Hellooooo

Hey Clare, how you doing hun?? I can't believe the tinies are nearly one, isn ... scary?????

I'm glad you posted about this as I'm mulling all this over too. I'm torn about this growing up milk aswell, but I wonder if it's just a marketing gimick and ploy to make money!

We stopped steralising about 2 months ago though (so pack yours away - it's really liberating!! hehe!!), and I'm thinking of doing a transition a bit like Jen described. Going to try her with a cup with cows milk in it (she already has a cup with water) once she's 1, if she doesn't like it or we have any botty troubles then going to mix it with formula to start with.

I tried it on her weetabix a while ago and she didn't like it, but this was when weetabix were new too, so I might try again soon as she loves weetabix now.

My concern is, she tends to sip (literally) and throw her sippy cup with water and take ages (and several sittings) to get a decent amount down her, and I can't see her drinking enough milk from the cup, but we'll see......

Let us know how you get on, will probably PM you around that time with a list of woes!! hehe

Love N & Isla (11 months) xx

Hey!

U dont need to still be sterilising now really, just washing the bottles with really hot soapy water.

As for the milk, i cant help much really, as Mia has an intollorance to cows milk so is still on formula (at nealry 18months!) its getting a bit of a pain now really!!!

I just wanted to post as i cannot believe that Kaitlyn is almost one! the time has flow by sooo fast!

Hi hen

you haven't needed to sterilise anything for a while now so don't bother doing that anymore. It's just giving you work.

What I done after their 1st b'day was finish off the formula box then use cows milk in a cup so at the same time as making the switch from formula to cows also switching from a bobo to a cup. This isn't as harsh as it sounds as by the time they are 1 my babies were only having formula in a bottle before bed so it's not that much.

Francis stayed on for a bit longer as I asbsent mindedly bought a tub when doing the shop so used it up which took nearly 8 weeks as he wasn't having very much so he woulda been 14 mths or so.

They seem to find it odd at first getting used to cows milk. I found that heating it a wee bit helped and if they are just not keen on milk as a drink (like me) then you give yogurt etc to get the calcium.
