Can you hire car seats from anywhere?

My friend has just had a baby and my OH has been asked to give them a lift home from hospital tomorrow as her OH doesn't drive and they don't have a car. Forgot to ask her what they were doing about a car seat and am worried they haven't thought about it now and the hospital (quite rightly) won't let them go without one so am trying to make contingency plans just in case. Only got rid of my rear facing one a few weeks ago but didn't know they were going to ask us to pick them up then, kicking myself now. Don't suppose the hospital would hire them out? Know some of them hire out breast pumps but think that might be a long shot, anyone know? They have a little boy who's 2, saw him today and he's really missing his mummy so would hate something like this to delay her coming home. Any suggestions welcome,

Hospital??

Our hospital lets people hire care seats,not sure if its common practise all over though- surely they would have arranged something.
