Weaning question

I have started weaning at 18 weeks on the advice of my HV. The baby wasn't too keen on lunch (she took about 5 spoons) but she loves eating at dinner time. So this is what I do. She usually eats 30 weaning spoons of baby rice/cereal!! And on top of this breast milk! I was wonderin when I should introduce a second meal? She was low on the growth chart that is why I had to start weaning and she really is hungry!! I am just not sure now how to progress since she is only just approaching 5 months.

Thanks.

Hey

Megan was on baby rice from 11 weeks as she stopped putting on weight due to reflux.

From 11 to 12 weeks she had 2 spoons of baby rice
12 weeks to 14 weeks she had a bowl full which resulted in about 10-15 spoons
14 to now (18 weeks) she has 2 meals a day, one in the morning with her bottle and one in the evening around 5pm

hope this helps in some way

Thank you very much for your help. Ashira just seems to love solids! she isn't that good a feeder when it comes to breast milk so I am glad that she loves her baby food
Again, thanks.

Katy

Hey

We had the exact same issue, needed to wean Emily at 17 weeks due to slow weight gain - trying to remember what we did but introduced a small meal of baby rice, I think at lunchtime and kept it like that for a few days, then introduced another meal of baby rice with a little fruit puree (I think at tea). Eventually after a couple of weeks we were doing 3 meals a day plus milk feeds too. Just take it gradually and slowly and introduce foods slowly.

We still have a fussy eater but Emily is now maintaining her weight which is good news.

Hi katy

I also weaned early on our consultants advice .. Dylan was around 17 weeks i think ..
We started with baby rice or porridge at breakfast time and then built up from there. When i introduced another ' meal ' i just gave him another small amount of porridge at lunchtime and then a small bottle. Once he seemed happy and confident eating the porridge i increased the porridge and reduced the bottle.
By 6 months Dylan was eating 3 meals a day and he favours his solids over milk .. I guess i'm saying just try adding another meal in and let Ashira lead the way.
If she's not ready just leave it a few days and try again ...

Good Luck

Em & Dylan 7 and a half months x x
