Car seats

Hiya, quick question, my little girl is getting far too big for her small car seat, think she's starting to get a bit uncomfortable in it, she's about 8.5kg, most of the next size car seats say that they are from 9months and approx 9kg.. She's still got about half a kilo to go, she is nearly a year, but was 3 month early, so is 9 months corrected... Poor wee sole hates going into her car seat, no wonder, she's starting to look a bit clostrophobic in it these days...

Has anybody else had this problem with their little ones being too big for their small seat, but not quite there for the next size of seat up, what did you do...

Any suggestions appreciated..

Thanks a lot

Had the same

Hi

I had the same with my daughter. We bought a 0+ car seat, which can go from birth to 4 years. It looks like a 1+ carseat (stage 2) but Can face backwards as well as forwards. You have them facing backwards till they are 9lbs then you can turn it around and fits them till the are 4.

The one we got was the Britax First Class Plus http://www.britax.co.uk/car-seats/first-class-plus My daughter has been very comfy in it and I am very pleased with it.

Hope that helps

Hi hun

siri is in her new car seat and has been for a month or so - she was about 9kg when we swapped her. the seat we got is good from birth to 18kg and is both backwards and forwards facing.
here it is illegal to have your child facing forwards until they are 4 (i think that is the right age) - all car seats are backward facing. the stats show how much safer it is. there is quite a lot of campagning going on in the UK to get seats just backwards facing until kids are much older.
anyway, i'm blathering...

we got the same seat in the uk for when we are visiting my mum - besafe izi combi

that seat, from that company actually. totally recommend the company - very friendly and very fast delivery.
siri is very comfortable in the seat and it has been throughly tested - 12 hour journey - she didn't get uncomfy once.
it is also a best in test seat.

hope you find the right one

Had same problem...

... my daughter has just gone into hers at 13 months and is still too light but was sooo cramped in her rear facing... she loves her new one.. we got maxi cosi tobi which is lovely but i would of got a rear facing group 1 if it would of fit in my car.... so long as her head will be between the head support bits she should be fine but definitely take her into the shops so you can try them in your car.... you might need an additional headrest for her which is one of the reasons i got the tobi as it has an extra headrest you can remove as they get older... her safety is the main priority and if her head is too far up in her rear facing i would say you should change it....
take care hun xxx danica and cadene xxx

Hello

I had the reverse problem. My son was weighing 9kg when he was 6 months old and I thought he was way too young to face forward in a 2nd stage seat but he was way too big for the little car seat. I bought a Britax first class SI from mothercare. It's a group 0 and group 1 car seat, so you can use it from birth facing back, and then when your child is strong enough to face forward (around 9 months - 12 months) you can use it facing forward. It was the best solution for us. i think that could work for hyou. Your daughter would have more room than in a small car seat but would still be safe facing back.
I know Concord and Jane make group 0 and 1 car seats too. There aren't many out there but I found the britax really good. (if you have isofix, there might be other car seats available).
hope this helps,
xxx

Hey

Scarlett is 19months old and still doesn't weigh enough for the second stage carseat but i made the descision to move her into it a couple of month ago as she was pulling her arms out of the infant carrier and trying to climb out! mothercare didn't want to sell me the 2nd stage one because of 'safety' reasons as she didnt weigh enough but how the hell was she safe hanging out of the infant carrier???? to be honest it was the best decision i made, she is so much happier and comfortable in the 2nd stage seat, i think the 20lbs guideline for the 2nd stage is down to the weight of the dummies that they use to test them????
