Questions about aptamil comfort milk

hi everyone,
was wondering if you could help my sister who is coming to me with advice about comfort milk-i never used this with my boys as there was never any real need to so i cant help her.
my niece is nearly 7 weeks now and to be honest has always had a bit of problems feeding. she was on the aptamil 1 milk and this was ok but she got quite colicky so last week she went on the aptamil comfort milk. her colic is much better but she is having poo pains (having a poo everyday still) it hurts her when she needs to pump i think?
also she has started being sick a little bit too. she also wants to feed a lot, on a nighttime she takes 15oz altogether from going to bed and waking up (this doesnt include her night bottle just after her bath)
should she be on hungry milk or will this upset colic? should she stay with comfort and put up with screaming pains when she needs to pump? or do we put her back on the aptamil 1 milk and put up with colic? or should we use a mixture of these milks (aptamil 1 during the day, comfort on the night?)
she cant change her brand of milk as she is moving to spain next week where her partner is from and they only do aptamil over there.

any help is greatly appreciated, feel terrible coz i cant help her!!!

Thank you

for all your suggestions. im looking after her today and she has just had a massive poo! think she might just have one every other day!
she seems a bit happier today so will just see how it goes with her!
thanks again!

Hi hun,

am sure this one's already been suggested but Dr Browns bottles made the biggest difference to Kaitlyn's colic and I tried everything there was to try. I agree mixing the types of milk is probably a bad idea, best to stick with just the one day and night, not sure which I'd go with so hard to know what's best when neither solves all the problems. Think I'd probably stick with what she was on originally and try the anti colic bottles see if that helps and then it's on to stuff like colief (expensive and you have to follow the intructions carefully but probably the best of the over the counter stuff), infacol, dentinox and gripe water if she's still no better. I really feel for your sister, it's horrible watching them suffer and so hard to know whether to keep messing them about and trying new things or if you're just making it worse by trying to help! Hope your niece settles down soon, big hugs to them both from me.

Love, Clare xxx

Hey hun

I use Cow and Gate but they are all very much the same.
Firstly, most babies will go through the colicky stage, before she changes the milk has she tried Infacol or Gripe water for the colic?
I put Archie on Comfortable Digest and he did get a bit bunged up, its beacause its thicker, MY HV advised to give him as much water as I could. He still did get colic tho!
I HAD to change him back too Stage1 because he now has Reflux and the medication thickens the milk.
Either stage1 or comfy digest is fine (dont mix them tho, just use 1 of them), use a suppliment like Infacol or Gripe water or Colif for the colic. Give her some 'Nappy Free Time' just let her lay on her changing mat with tissue under her bottom so she can get her legs moving, this will help with the pooping, move her legs in a bicycle style movement and massage her belly, this will help too. Give her plenty of water.
Hungry Baby is really for babies that are near to being weaned, she is a little young for it, this does bung them up and make them constipated, her digestive system is not really advanced enough for that yet. A lot of HV will advise against using it.
You may find if you use 1 type in the day and 1 at night this in itself may cause belly ache and constipation.
As for the vomiting, most babies are a bit sicky, Archie has been a very sicky baby, I found out at about 12 weeks that he had Reflux (also very common) so hes now on meds for it.

I hope this has been of some help too you hun xx

I used aptamil

and found the switch to hungry milk was better than comfort....i had to give him water too though as i found this helped with the pumping/pooing issues he also had.

to be honest i think most babies have this issue for a while and it does settle down.

xx
