"Reason behind names....."
Posted by ellie223 8 October  at  16:11

What was the reason you called your babes what you did? I love all of the names that crop up on here - they all seem to suit their owners well!

The reason we came up with Kieran was because of his 2nd cousin who, bless her, died aged 7 of JML (leaukemia). She was so brave and strong and we wanted to keep her memory alive in some way and, as we didn't know whether we were having a boy or girl, we came up with Kieran James (James being my dad and brothers middle name) or Abby Louise (Abby as in Abigail which was Kiera's middle name and Louise is my middle name) It is so strange how he looks so alike Kiera - certain faces he pulls, expressions that I'd only ever seen Kiera do.

Just wondered how you all came to choose the lovely names that you did (bit pointless but I'm in one of those moods today!)

Love to all

Ellen, Kieran and 11+3 Jelly Bean

Heya Ellen hun,

We chose Lily as when i was a child my mum went to see a medium and she said to my mum that she saw a native american indian women laying a Lily (the flower) on her daughters lap, my mum has 2 daughters and mum asked the medium which daughter and she said the one that is happiness...my names means happiness, so when mum told me as i got older i decided it was the perfect name, and later tracing my family history i found out that my great great great nan was a algonquin red indian called Susan Deerwoman (and Susan means Lily too) her middle name May is the month Jas and i got married.

Charlie Steven was so called because my gran dad was called Charlie. and my dad is Steven
Alfie Jack is after Jason's gran dad John Alfred..just reversed and a slightly different version of
Harry Joseph was after my mums gran dad Harold and Joseph is in memory of Jason's first born son, who was tragically killed in a hit and run accident when he was 2.

We had run out of names but ive just traced my dads side of the family in south africa and i now have 9 great uncles and 3 great aunts and a whole host of other relatives i might be able to pinch names from.

Leitia & 18+1 bump number 5

chose Mia as we ddnt no any mia's at the time and we wanted a name that you cant shorten (even though i call he Mi MI!)

Also im half Italien and Mia means Mine in Italien and i really liked that.

Her name is actually Mia Mae, i loved the name Mae and as she was due in May thought it would be cute, when it was the 31st of May and she still hadnt arrived i panicked, then she made her apperence at 10pm! Just in time!!! If she wasnt born in May then her name would have been Mia Olivia, as her godmummy is Olivia.

Kate & Mia Mae 18wks 6 days

name was decided by nick, says it isnt her name after him, (yeah right) but as he liked the name, i came up with louise as the midwife was louise but he liked it as his borther's ex was louise he really liked her and if we see her she'll always stop and speak to us. so thats her, if she was a he then she would have been william (will for short as theres already a william on nicks side) after my grandad and middle name alexander after my fil
"Ben"

was sort of chosen by me. i was in labour and we still hadnt agreed on a boys name, we had max, james & ben (although ben was more of an afterthought) so when i had finally given birth about 10 minutes after i had him i asked what we had lol!!!! had cuddled him and everything and when she held him up apparently both our faces dropped ( we were sure he was a she!!) so we were a bit shocked. oh said i could choose after going thru all that pain so i chose james. his face was a picture (i dont think he liked it!!) so i said fair enough what about ben and that was that. not benjamine just ben.

if he was a she it would have been emily, layla or evie.

I wasnt gonna post on this one after my hormonal outburst the other day lol, but anyhoo now ive calmed down i thought i would haha.

Well our lil man is called Acey-James (as probably all of you know by now hehe). I knew even before i was pregnant that we were gonna have a boy, dont ask me how cos i dont have a clue, so wasnt too fussed on picking a girl name although I think he would have been a Lydia.

Anyhow I had a list as long as my arm for a boy, but Andrew didnt like any of them and the only name he could come up with was Chalky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (dont ask)

Well the only name we did agree on was Acey, it means number one and first and just so happened to be my grandads name too (on my dads side and he passed away a few years ago). We both liked it cos we thought it was kinda a cool name, didnt think it was that unusual where he would get bullied at school or anything and well dunno really we both just liked it. James was added cos we always said we would have Andrews parents names included as they passed away when Andrew was 13 (his mum) and 16 (his dad). So we decided he was gonna be Acey-James Christopher (Christopher being my dads name).

So there ya have it............Acey-James Christopher Hogg

Lots a love

"My baby's name"

We came up with our Little Minx's name when I was about 3mths pregnant. As complete petrol heads, everyone expected us to give our baby a car-related name like Mercedes or Porsche (Portia)! Going a bit too far, we thought! We did but so subtely that hardly anyone realises! My OH comes from Norwich, where the Lotus factory is. Our little girl is called Elise, although the Lotus Elise was named after the designer's grand daughter so really it comes from a real person's name and not a car! Her middle name is Shelby (as in Ford Mustang!) But Shelby was also a character in the film Steel Magnolias, a movie I love to bits and it makes me cry every time!

The only people who "get" the car connection are car fanatics too! But Elise Shelby is such a pretty name, unusual but not weird. And it suits her really well.

Elise would have been Charlie if she had been a little boy, after my Grandad.

Dylan was picked by me and hubby liked it. If he was a girl he was gonna be a Lauryn. Max was picked because at the time I used to watch Hollyoaks and thought Max was really sweet. Hubby chose the name Finnley. I wasnt that keen but I finally agreed with him but if he was a girl he was gonna be Olivia as I got bored of waiting for a Lauryn to turn up lol. We found out we were having a boy on the 4th one and chose Thomas as I have always liked this name and Harry, well I stole that one from Leitia! It also fits in with the rest of the boys. So we have a Dylan, Max, Finnley, Thomas and Harry and no they dont have middle names. It was bad enough choosing their 1st names and YES I have run out of names for more boys so all the better for us decieding not to have anymore kids. I will have to have a pet called Olivia lol.

Take care

Sarah

If he'd been a girl he would have been Isla or Sky (although not both together as it would've sounded a bit daft). We had no names for a boy - I read a couple of name books and we couldn't find one we agreed on. We decided to look for something short as he's quite young for his school year and we thought it would make it easier for him to be able to write his name. OH put a search for 3 letter names into the computer and Ivo was the first one we agreed on. Means 'yew tree' and used to be popular about 300 years ago.
Unfortunately it was only after we'd named him we realised St Ivo is the saint of abandoned children which isn't the best association but I still like the name.
"Jude "

is my subtle acknowledgement of being BIG Beatles fan (got tattoo of them).

St. Jude is the patron saint of hopeless cases tho ooer

By the time Francis was coming along, I really had kinda run out of boys names and just continued in the theme of saints. There's one for all the boys (maybe not Charlie, does anyone know)

My Dads Polish and I wanted to keep the Polish connection going, but hubby really didnt like any of the names I suggested until he heard a Polish football player called Lukas and said he quite liked it, but before that we settled for Leo Jack..Leo after my Polish Grandad ( his nick name) and Jack after Hubbys Grandad, So my wee boy now has Leo Jack as his middle names now.

...don't have much of a reason, how boring, we were torn between Eleanor or Erin for a little girl and set on Ewan if we had a boy, all E names funnily enough.

When I was having my first cuddle with her, I turned to David (within minutes of her being born) and said Erin or Eleanor, he said Eleanor and that was it. We had already decided on her middle names Elizabeth May.
So there she was. Eleanor Elizabeth May Geraghty (a long one!)

.......chose oliver because it truly was the only boys name that we both liked! we just went through name after name after name until we stumbled on one that we both liked. we did know that we wanted an old fashioned sort of traditional name tho. his middle name is george - george was my grandad on my dad's side of the family. he died about a month before i fell pregnant with oliver and so george is for him. if we had had a girl she would have been emily (again, one of few names we could agree on!!) and her middle name nicola, which was my hubby's little sister's name, sadly she died when she was 6.

so this time its still emily nicola for a girl, but we are soooooo buggered if we have a boy!!

love kelly, oliver 8 months today and 15+4 bean

"Erin violet"

I knew it was a girl from the second I knew I was pregnant so I let Mark choose the boys name (ha ha!). We would have called her Noah Alexander if she had been a boy. I really liked Elsa but Mark hated it. I suggested Erin just cause I found it on a website. Mark really liked it, then we realised it meant 'of Ireland' (I think it was what Ireland was called before it was called Eire) and it just worked out well as my Nanna Violet was Irish-Welsh so we gave her Violet after my Nan as middle name, and Erin for the Irish heritage in my family. Then when we thought about it we realised that we had conceived in Dublin, so it all worked out for the best!!! Now I can't imagine her not being an Erin.
