Nasty nineyear old son

i said no more kids after my second daughter who is now 24 but now have a son 9 and a daughter 7.i find my son hard work as he has a bad temper and has recently started wishing me dead he gets in grief at school and throws his weight around alot. things got so bad the other day he was screaming at me while i was drivig thumping the window saying he would smash it if i did,nt let him out the car and telling me how much he hated me and wished i was dead. i did end up pulling over and letting him out, i then drove home in a state and my husband went and picked him up. he's having therapy but i think he is getting worse not better. there is no txt book on parenting and up untill my son was born i did'nt think i'd done a bad job now i feel i'm being punished. My 7 year old girl is no angel she's sometimes hard work but i feel her brother is rubbing off on her .

It hard going being a mom sometimes. . .

It sounds like he has some quite specific behaviour difficulties.

He may always be a difficult child and grow into a difficult adult. What you need to do is develop coping mechanisms in order to deal with him and prevent it from really affecting you. My son is very difficult sometimes and it just leaves you feeling so washed out.

Next time your son goes to the therapist ask for some coping tips for yourself and your husband. They will be happy to help i'm sure. Like you say parenting doesn't come with a manual - you are doing your best!

My 9 yr old too

he is just the same i av 10 children and av never had trouble like he gives me he swears shouts told me he hates me and just kicks off all the time ,

I know how u feel

hi there i know how u feel my 14 year old stepson lives with us,he is really bad but he has adhd, his mum couldnt cope with him so he came to live with us,i find it hard to cope with but you just have to xx

Hi

you must be exhausted....kids like your son really take it out of you dont they? so has he always been this way?? because if not there are of course all the possibles to take into consideration.....abuse, bullying, difficulties with schoolwork , friends or lack of....but if he has always been different - for want of a better word....has he been properly assessed by a paediatrician who specializes in things such as add, adhd , aspergers syndrome....if not id be hot footing it there right now....get on a website for such things top get a recomendation for a doc-i know plenty of good ones here but none in the rest of the world!!! so what kind of therapy is he having? if its just "talking therapy" as so many do its not much good for most kids-they need someone to tell them what to do-at least in the early stages-someone to set the rules and provide strategies and structure-and im sure you have tried to do just that but a good professional will be able to set things in place and should work not just with the child but include the family....as far as his behavior in the car....id drive straight to the nearest police station and enlist the help of a nice big child savvy policeman....i know lots of families who have done that-they can be such a help-have a chat with your local cops....they may even know of some good programs being run that would benefit him-camps etc...i wish you luck and strength!! big squeeze i hope things go well for him -and for your daughter-xx
