Anyone have a hard of hearing child?

I just wondered if anyone has a child with hearing problems. I have a 4 year old daughter and for a couple of months I have wondered if she may be having difficulties hearing me. My husband thinks it is just selective hearing but I am not so sure. She seems to miss a lot of what I say and I have to shout to get her attention. She also talks in a very loud voice most of the time and is always asking me to repeat things. She has also become and quite angry and aggressive for no apparent reason. Nothing has ever been picked up at any of her health checks and she had a clear newborn hearing test but it's just niggling me. Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? Should I take her to the GP or visit my health visitor?

Thanks for any advice

Sounds familiar

My daughter is 4 years old and has suffered with hearing problems all of her life. She also had trouble with speech, pronouncing words, and picking up words. At first I thought it was just slow development however after multiple doctors tests we found out she was partially deaf in her left ear. She has had 2 operations so far, one to have gromits put into her right ear, and a t-tube into her left ear. Her hearing improved very quickly after this first operation, along with her speech. Her 2nd operation was to remove the t-tube because she had an infection in her ear. She now has a hearing aid for her left ear and ear drops. My daughter also has toliet traning problems, she is still in nappies, I think this a side effect of her slight deafness.

Personally I would go and push to get tests done, and explain the situation with the aggressiveness, and anger.

Hope this helps

Yep!

My daughter is now 5,me n my partner decided 2 have hearing checked 2yrs ago cuz we cudnt decide if she really had a problem or it was selective hearing.Sha passed the test fine but last yr i still wasnt convinced so got her checked again & again she passed. We then wondered if it was a build up of wax so used sum drops & sure enough we found lumps of wax on her pillow. This improved her hearing at that time.
Over the last few months shes been worse on & off.The one time she was really struggling to hear I took her the docs who said that because she had a cold & swollen tonsils it was causing blocked hearing. Then a month or so l8r she was screaming in pain which was an infection in one ear & the doctor said ther was lots of wax.Once her infection had cleared i started using the drops again & again ther is sum improvement. She is due a routine test at school soon(they get 1 btween 5-5 1/2)so im waiting to c how it goes.
I think wax is definately part of the cause but Glue Ear is also a commen problem at her age so im not rulin that out.Google glue ear for more info on that.
Its really frustating & admit i have to remind myself that it mite not be her fault that i hav 2 say sumat 5 times!!!!
Ope this helps abit

This sounds all to familiar my best advise is go private........ general history i have always suffered with my ears from a young age, hospitals through every stage of my life so i know only to well the effect bad ears have on someone especially your child, My daughter will be 6 in November and since she was a year old i just went with my instint and took her to the doctor she kept on sufering with ear infections she was getting regualr infections about 2 in 1 month sometime 3 i was palmed off by being told shes teething, got a cold but she was only having 1 good week out of the month, just like you all her tests came back okay after 2 years it satred to take it's toll back and forth to the hospital only to give her antibiotics it came to the point that we were given these only by request, i was worried about her speech and what start in life i was giving her enough was enough we decided to pay £50 to go and pay 1/2 hour consulation with a consultant which confirmed she had Glue Ear.... what relief i felt i was failing her as a mother in protecting my little girl and at last i was right. We were told she could grow out of this or worst case would be a gromit, after some time we adapted to her new way of living there was ways of talking to her without the need of shouting, little ways to help clear the ears by teaching her to blow her nose as much as she could to stop any mucas travelling through the canals, she was placed on a list which after paying 1st time was really quick i may add she had to be seen every 6 months, when she was 4 she was clear great result but she was kept on the list still having the odd ear infection but it didnt stop her going by her everday routine. her last appointment which was after her 5th birthday and she has now been discharged no more Glue Ear, her speach is excellent, she is even fluent in another language and she even goes swimming twice a week, so please dont get forbed off with infections as a mother we know when something isnt right push as much as you can even if it means paying for it. Good luck hope it all goes well...Cindas
