"We had a different motivation"

We found out early on in our marriage that we wouldn't be able to have children.
After about five or six years together, we decided we would adopt a child from a disadvantaged family, so that they would have more of a start in life with us - not that we were rich by any means, but comfortable and we saw a TV report about Dr Barnado's charity and how many children were living in children's homes at the time, the early seventies. We wanted to help more than anything, and now have two grown up children, who are both very happy with their own families.
"Clock is ticking"
Posted by sallyhere 18 March at 11:37

I'm thirty-six and I can practically hear my biological clock ticking. I think women reach a certain point, and the natural instinct for childbearing kicks in and nothing else matters.
My problem is that I'm on my own, I have no partner. I was wondering if anyone had any tips about adoption as a single person - is it possible/harder than adopting as a couple?

Also, what about fostering?
thanksx
"Adopting and single"
Posted by hifiprincess 13 January at 23:38

Hi, Sallyhere, yes, I have a friend who is single and had gone through the entire process of adoption. However, she got pregnant just as she was to take the child in, and dropped the adoption. She was at the very end of the process. It is entirely possible. She was going through the US foster care system--which is the free way to do it, and the route I'll probably take.
