Can i adopt and go through ivf?

My wife and I want to adopt, but at he same time continue with our fertility treatment.
We have met with an adoption agency and were given the impression that this was not an aceptable approach to the process of adoption.
Is it woring to want to try several methods of building a family at once? Can we really be prevented from doing one if we are doing the other.

Will we really have to wait two years or more before adoption agencies will even take us seriously?

They prefer that you don't!!

Hiya,

Adoption agencies prefer that you are thru with trying fertility treatments when you apply to adopt. Borough Adoption agencies in particular. They like to think that are emotionally over the 'not being able to have a child of your own' (althou you never are) and are emotionally stable enough to adopt.

Adoption is a very intrusive process. They really delve into your private life. It, in some ways, is as bad as the rollercoaster ride of fertility treatment.

Having said that, we stopped all fertility treatment thru our GP and started the adoption process. After a year in we were lucky to come into some money from family. So we used this money to pay private for a course of IVF and instructed the hospital that NO contact should be made with our GP, so the adoption could not see this.

Anyway, we were about to do egg collection when the adoption matched us to our son. I wouldn't have it any other way.

So if you are going private for IVF there is a way to do both, if going NHS or GP fundholder you really have to make a decision.

I hope this helps you. And feel free to ask any Q's about adoption. We've done it twice now
